Daily Update (LG Nest) Wednesday, April 7, 2010

Start of a new day at Loch Garten

  • Odin also returns - they don't make much sound, but he carefully rearranges all the branches she has just moved.  "not there, here!!"    Then a quick mating, and he's off again.

  • Odin flies in for rapid mating and vanishes again.

I love the look on EJ's face as Odin flew away. She seems to say, 'What happened then ? '

  • I thought that, Brenda, it was comical.  Nice to hear all the other sounds around the nest.

  • EJ sitting peacefully on the nest, its so nice to see her all relaxed in the sunshine.

    Mating at 7.20am

Good morning auntie and thanks for the screen shot, he seems to be making the most of EJ this morning and I have just seen him mating again with EJ.  Over quickly as usual and then he flew off leaving EJ looking somewhat bemused.  Have a good day.

And it's Odin, in for his usual '"wham, bam, thank you ma'am" morning routine.  Charming. Now you see him; now you don't.  Of course, I'm not even sure she saw him. :-)

Hi Annette laughed at this and I have just seen Odin at it again and leaving the nest directly afterwards.  Wonder what EJ is thinking bless her.

Yes, he certainly really gets stuck into the task, doesn't he?  That's another reason for males having larger feet than females, I suppose, others being better balance while mating, stronger feet for aerial battles and catching fish.  Anyway, Odin can really use them well when it comes to egg cup digging!  ;-)

You are so right Wattle 15 really upping is mating prowess today.  Saw them both earlier moving the furniture around, he then mated again and flew off.  What entertainment ospreys give us.

    Fantastic. We have sound.

Wonderful to have the sound even with the buzz.  Looks much better at LG today and what a treat for EJ and Odin to sit in some sun at long last.  Been really busy this morning moving sticks around.

I went to take a look at the Weekly Chat thread, and when I looked again at the nest, they were both sitting together.  (post mating??)  Very comical without the sound, as both had their beaks moving - "don't put that stick there"  -  "why not? and anyway, you have brought far too much moss...."

Odin now flown off again.  So must I, to start my day.

Morning Lindybird love your comments.  It seems a lot busier today on the nest, lots of stick moving and at one point EJ had quite a large stick and was having a bit of difficulty putting it where she wanted it.

  • Isn't it lovely to watch them, Margobird.  But I have to go out on shopping mission now, or nothing to eat tonight!  Happy osprey watching.
