Daily Update (LG Nest) Tuesday, April 6, 2010

Not sure how much I'll see tonight, given computer problems. Can't see any wind action at LG - don't know if it's calm or of the image is frozen!

  • EJ on the nest with a fish, Did she bring it herself or Odin?

    Good evening

Just caught up with todays proceedings... and  TISH stressing,  - your blood pressure will be sky high

Oh a mating session.   oooo   prolonged, compared to others I've seen/

    Hi Soos,

It's been a really odd day. They weren't on the nest for HOURS . We don't know of course what is happening off camera but the  pills seem to be working ok.

Everything in life is speaking in spite of its apparent silence.

  • EJ building up the nest around egg cup .  There's a piece of fish on the nest, don't know if Oding brought when he came into mate or if it was there previously, only been on a few minutes.  Nest gone fuzzy now.  She busy intertwining branches and moss.

All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy.

  • Thanks Tiger.

EJ is just moving twigs/moss around the nest. She has left the fish lying on nest. Pictures now black/white but fish is to the left of nest when looking at screen. Guess she can't be very hungry.

She has exited and left fish on nest !!

  • What a funny fuzzy picture right enought Soosin

Everything in life is speaking in spite of its apparent silence.

  • This is interesting. About a half hour ago  I checked and EJ was straightening twigs and there was a small headless fish on the nest. She left the nest and the fish is still there.

I think Odin is sleeping on the  sofa  LOL

Odin( I think)  just brought in some nesting material, but EJ is not there. He is looking around and no EJ

In Roy Dennis' book, "A Life of Ospreys",  he says that  part of the  mating ritual is the male brings 2-3 fish a day to   the female to bring  the her into peak condition after her long migration.

Odin has not been feeding EJ.   Would she  reject him if he doesn't  feed her now  for fear  he would not  feed her and the  chicks  when she can't fish because she is   brooding ?

    Just a thought

We sort of know the answer to that question Barbara. In 2005 when EJ and  OVS set up nest and EJ laid two eggs. The Red 8T  turned up and drove OVS away. Red 8T did a bit of nest repair and kicked one egg out of the nest and another on to the rim of the nest. Poor EJ retrieved the egg and kept on incubating but Red 8T would not feed EJ. Eventually I think hunger forced EJ to try and fish for herself and incubate.

Then of course a very bedraggled Henry turned up. He was still able to drive Red 8T away and kick the egg/s out of the nest. EJ sulked and disappeared for nine days. Henry had to go and get her but no matter how many large fish he fed her EJ could not be persuaded to lay a second clutch of eggs.

Details of this saga are still to be found over on Bird Forum.

  • Barbara Jean I have just looked in this evening and I am so pleased that EJ and Odin have been seen.  Apart from a sighting of EJ this morning the nest seemed to be empty right up until 4.00.  Looks as though quite a bit more has been added to the nest and I think EJ is there but it is a bit difficult to see.  Laughed about Odin sleeping on the sofa.

Well perhaps the team might not mind if their posts were copied across.
