Daily Update, Saturday, April 3, 2010

Starting this early because I don't want to forget Tiger's last post on the previous day's update, which was "The male osprey is back at Kielder."    Can Odin be far behind?    LG nest empty; Marge snoozing at LOTL.  Come on guys!

  • Thanks Su - glad you find it useful. It varies as to who arrives first, sometimes males arrive back before the females.

All the reserves shown have nests and some have more than one, ie Rutland Water. As you know, there are quite a few birds yet to arrive so it will be interesting to see what this season brings.

    Hi Chloe,

Please pardon my ignorance but I'm afraid I don't know that there are still 'quite a few birds yet to arrive' . How many more osprey are expected? I suppose that it can only be assessed by the number of ringed birds,or am I totally off kilter? Help a desperately interested, but not very knowlegeable poster!! The more info the better for me!!

  • Morning/afternoon all!  Su and Pipsar8 -  Welcome!   Diane: Your night shift much appreciated -  EJ was up early - maybe I should go to bed at 9 every night. Thanks especially for the early morning pix (and the one with the little blurb!)  Today's the day I figure out MWSnap.  Chloe: Brilliant map that now explains what and where when Tiger, Alan and others start talking about other osprey nests. Thanks a bunch.  Off to Weekly Chat now.  Thanks all for pix, updates, etc.

Weekly chat...help!! How do I get there?

  • Sue: Here's the link to the list of Forums. You'll see Weekly Chat (started every Sunday) listed there.  http://www.rspb.org.uk/community/groups/lochgartenospreys/default.aspx  It's where we blather about ospreys and lots of other stuff too

  • Hi Su.

Birds still to arrive at the sites on ChloeB's brilliant map (thanks for that!):

    Loch Garten: Odin (male)

Loch of the Lowes: Eric (male)

    Kielder Water: Female

Cors Dyfi: Both male and female

Rutland Water: Female (mate of 32(05))

Not sure about Caerlaverock but haven't heard any news so assume both are yet to arrive.

  • I wonder how many people are sitting at their computer muttering ''Come on Odin (or Eric)''  I have a million other things I should be doing!
