WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY, MARCH 8, 2015

Egads! We have to put the clocks forward tonight!  Seems like we just put them back 10 minutes ago.  :-(

  • Yikes!! I think I said it was "warmish," this morning........ The sun burnt a hole in the clouds and has now burnt most of them off. Someone has just told me that its 28 deg. in the shade!! Feels even hotter out on the beach - we have come in to cool off and eat lunch. I shall not be rushing out again until its cooled a little. We did the housework before we left this morning, and mopped, dusted & swept so its nearly clean here now. Thankfully the fridge seems to have escaped the fine sand which is in every crevice elsewhere!
  • Friends of ours, who introduced us to this area over 15 years ago, told us that not too long ago, the island had mostly only dirt tracks everywhere for roads. Now it has pretty good roads, probably paid for by the EU membership. But tourism is still less here (Fuerteventura) than on the other islands, so its less spoilt. Things seem to have picked up lately for local businesses, which were in sad decline five years ago due to the recession. We understand that there are far less German visitors, now, for instance, due to their economy faltering.
  • Hello all and thanks ANNETTE for starting us off.

The painter arrives tomorrow, so have been busy today taking all pics and plates off the walls.

Sorry no more news, but ANNETTE, first appointment has come through for OH. It is for his scan, 20th of this month. Things happening more quickly these days, it seems.

  • Thanks Annette for starting the week, again.

It has been another sunny day here. Not the cloud that was forecast.

We have spent a lovely day with the family. They have all returned home now, so ready for my bed now.

Catch up with you all tomorrow.

  • Thanks Annette for starting us off, hope all is well with you.

Lindy - nice to know it has really warmed up for you.

What a difference a day makes re our bald eagle and of course the osprey is till around.

mum looks lovely in the early evening light

Not a lot happening here, started of a reasonable day and then the rain came and the day developed into a wet one.  Still our son and DiL came over for Sunday lunch, not seen them since Christmas, so it was nice to catch up and find out whether my outfit for the wedding will clash with hers. Thankfully not. Its all systems go now for the wedding, DiL was telling me that her Dau and future SiL have managed to tie up a lot of loose ends and that it is all coming together for them.  Was at church with our Womens' Own group whose anniversary service it was plus the fact that it was International Womens' Day so it all made for a very pleasant service. Our minister's wife led and preached and was very good.

  • Hi all:  Bought some lovely salvia the other day and planted it today.  Otherwise, not a lot going on.

Heather: Glad things have speeded up re scans; let's hope they're as speedy with the results.

Seems like summer here already with the lighter evening. Wonder what happened to our winter.....

  • Good Morning Everyone. A dry/bright morning. Thinking of those in Scotland with more heavy rain and gales.

Lynette, You must be getting excited about the wedding now. As always, thanks for the nest photographs.

Annette, The difference in the weather across the USA is beyond belief. You speak of summer weather and the East Coast is still buried in many feet of snow.

Hope everyone if fine on this Monday morning.

  • Good morning, all!  It's a beautiful morning here and Limpy is spending the day at Minsmere.  He actually set the alarm for 4am - EEEEK! - he likes to be in the Island Mere hide when it starts getting light as you can sometimes see the otters there.  Fingers crossed he saw them today as I'd hate to think of his getting up at such an early hour for nothing.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Pleasant and dry day Sunday, and a break from the wind. Spent the morning gardening in short sessions. Afternoon passed quickly before church, which was a good service. Today started still dry, so OH was able to treat the garden arch; this meant I did some of his daily tasks indoors as well as my own. Now he is shopping and I am having a sit-down, and the rain has arrived. Wind to follow later, after the rain stops (allegedly!)

Annette – belated thanks for new thread. Our clocks will change 28th March. Sorry restaurant was noisy, but good that you liked the food! New shed has exactly the same footprint and design as the old one, so will fit the same space, and with its door where the path reaches it. The greenhouse is a separate entity, nearer the house. Bowel screening here is done by postal FOB testing every three years for over 55s (I think I got that right), so no routine scanning or hidden cameras!

Linda – pleased you seem to be enjoying the holiday, despite dust, primitive infrastructure and economic decline – oh, and that heat in the afternoon! Rather you than me, I have to say.

Heather – I hope your painters turned up as promised! Pleased your OH has a date.

Brenda – nice for you to have all the family yesterday – I expect there was a lot to talk about!

Lynette – thanks for your nest pics. I see you also had a family catch-up lunch.

Clare – pleased Limpy is still so enthusiastic about Minsmere. I assume managing that early start means his back is somewhat improved!

OH back with shopping, so will help put away.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
