Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey Topics), 1 March 2015

HAPPY NEW WEEK AND HAPPY NEW MONTH!

Last week's Chat thread is HERE.

Thursday, March 5, is the Full Moon.

Also,

On March 6, NASA's Dawn spacecraft will arrive at the dwarf planet Ceres. Ceres is the largest object in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.

The Dawn space probe will spend several months observing Ceres and sending back the first close-up images of a dwarf planet in our solar system. You can watch the spacecraft's arrival at Ceres on a special broadcast of the Slooh Observatory:

U.K.: Friday 6 March at 6:00 p.m.
Eastern U.S.: 6 March at 1:00 p.m.
California: 6 March at 10:00 a.m.

Scientists have already detected mysterious bright spots on Ceres and are anxious to discover what they are. INFO

Everyone have a great week!

  • Hi everyone, have got my little one home. This is just from my phone.

  • Morning all:

Happy Birthday to Eagle-eye! Thanks Brenda  :-)

Starling: What a cutie and oh my; he's already found his toy and his spiffy new bed.  Sorry, what did you name him? I remember liking it but....

Here are some photos  from the last couple of weeks

Fat baby hummingbird found the feeder:

These trees in the parking lot of the gym (the YMCA) are always the first to blossom; it's like walking in a snowstorm (but warmer).

Monarch Butterfly laying eggs on Milkweed (pesky critter had its wings spread right before I took the photo. The wings are much brighter in sunlight. I now have three fat caterpillars munching their way through the leaves; hope we don't run out of grub before they shed their skins.

Finally, the barest hint of one view of the ocean from our whale counting spot after yesterday's storm

  • Hi Annette, his name has not been finalised yet, but I think it will be Baxter.

    Love the photos!

  • Starling: If that's the case, I won't have any problems at all remembering - it's my husband's last name! (I kept my own name when we married.)  :-)

  • Starling, he's gorgeous!  I'm so pleased you have him at home now.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Aaaaw! Starling! He's just a darling! Baxter is a great name (& what a coincidence, Annette). Happy Birthday to our friend Eagle-Eye - hope its a good one!
  • Clare - great that your car makes you mobile again - let's hope it will take you to work, soon! "I fancied a Fiesta/So I found one that impressed...../I'm not a plumber or a jester/ Just a numbers girl, in jest.../I'll zoom around in this one/ It will be my hearts desire/I like to put my foot down/ So the roadways are on fire!/ I may soon try to tame her/ For she will be my pal/The locals soon will name her/'The Fiesta & her Gal!'"
  • Annette: Thanks for your lovely pics! I do love to see the ocean! - I'm looking at it, now!
  • After a couple of days reading and not posting, from memory:-

Thank you Diane for starting us off and for the information regarding Ceres. Is it volcanoes?!!

ANNETTE - happy that you saw some whales and happy that you got rain. It seems strange to say that, when we are inundated with the stuff!

CLARE- Happy that you have a new car and still have fingers crossed for you regarding a job.

OG- you seem to have recovered from your cold, which is good, and did I see that Eagle Eye had a birthday?

LYNETTE- I was sorry to read that your church friend had died. As you say, he didn't suffer for long. That is such a well worn saying but truthfully, it is what I would wish for anyone.

LINDY- its great to hear from you, good to read about your holiday experiences. Enjoy.

Hoping to hear from MARGO soon regarding blood tests.

BRENDA- hope that your daughter's move is completed satisfactorily!

RITA, GEORGE, EVERYONE, thank you for posts.

It's been a bit snowy and cold here today.

OH got on OK at hospital. He has been referred for further investigations including a scan. Fingers crossed.

Sheana is just the same. I won't bore you with the details.
