WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2015

Happy New Week all

  • Lynette - sorry to hear about your daughter. She does seem to have been a victim of bad luck. I hope all turns out right for her. AQ - If its any small consolation, I have been having the self same struggle to find a potato masher for the last couple of years! We have a very old one, now looking shabby, and I have been searching for a replacement which is not too big but also has the right kind of "holes!" I even bought one at one stage, but we hated it and gave it away...... The search goes on and meanwhile my shabby one is looking out of place in my utensil jar on the worktop.
  • The sun is trying to come out here, after a cold night. Here is a Monday Smile for you:
  • Awww!  That's gorgeous, Lindy.

I've yet to hear Lady Gaga's Oscars performance - I'm not surprised she went down a storm as she has such a fantastic voice.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Good morning. Sun coming through. Cool with wind chill, but snow confined to higher ground, and not even raining so far.

Rita – sorry you and Amber didn’t get to the beach on Sunday. I hope it is drier for you today, but I fear you may be on the edge of the snow this morning.

Linda – I hope you manage to squeeze all the sandals into the suitcase before your Son arrives tonight! I set a record yesterday: I watched a whole film without falling asleep in my chair! It was quite a short one, recorded at Christmas: Esio Trot, with Judi Dench and Dustin Hoffman. I am not at all a film person, and have very little interest in the cult of “celebrity” in any form! But I have been interested in Dame Judi since I was about 17, having seen her on stage in Oxford when Dame Sybil Thorndyke visited the schools’ matinee she was in and predicted she would do well! Thanks for the “Smile” this morning.

Lynette – I was interested that you have decided on membership of your “new” church, as we are faced with the same question. Having been CofE before, there was no joining as such, because it is there for all, but we joined the CofS after we moved here, and, when that church hurt J, I left and said I would never join a church again, but of course membership is generally a big issue in the Baptist Church we now attend. Sorry your Daughter’s work situation has become so bad, and may be a legal issue; I hope it eventually works out in her favour.

Annette – pleased to see you enjoyed at least parts of the Oscars show; I hope you slept well after all that excitement!

AQ – nice for you to meet up with your Friend after so long. I hope you and she can make some trips again during autumn. We bought a new potato masher last week, with quite a small head, and shall be trying it out this evening!

Clare – good morning! Thinking of you today – or however long it takes.

OH has another cold, but says he will be okay to take me to buy the seeds I still need from a different garden centre; this will include lunch again!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Lynette D said:

Daug's problems with work escalated this week with a very unfortunate email saying she was suspended - it was the final straw so she has resigned and sent a letter to that effect. They still say they are going ahead with the meeting next Tuesday but she has said she will not be attending.  Has to ring ACAS tomorrow to find out if they think that she has made a right decision and its legal. So we wait and see

How awful, Lynette.  I hope things sort themselves out for her - it sounds like a thoroughly unpleasant workplace if they choose to communicate something as serious as a suspension via an email!  Fingers crossed she gets a better job soon.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Good Morning Everyone.

Linda, Thank you. An elephant at last. I do love them.

Lynette, So sorry your daughter has problems at work. I do hope ACAS give her good advice and it will all be sorted in her favour.

OG, Sorry EE has another cold. Has 'J' recovered from his latest bug ?

  • Good morning all and the weather causing problems. Lovely day Saturday but yesterday was awful, rained non-stop for hours and none to warm with it. Better this morning just had one shower but sun is out again. Lawns which had been drying out absolutely soaked again. Billie went out and went a little way across the lawn before realising it was so muddy and she was sinking. Turned round and scampered back in and is now asleep in a shaft of sun on the carpet. Since we changed her food she is a different cat. She plays a lot, her fur is like silk and her general demeanour is so different. Fingers crossed the skin probkem has been resolved.

Lyneete sorry to read abour daughter, quie disgusting this was done via an email. I hope there will be some legal recourse for her. She must have been very unhappy with the continuing situation. Pleased to read that your shoulder has improved. Thanks for the eagle pics.

OG those jigsaws are just fantastic and make wonderful ornaments. Sorry to read your OH has another cold. I have friends who now have another cold, seems as though tnis germ is hard to get rid of.

Clare hope you enjoyed Minsmere. Hope you get some job news today, my fingers still crossed for you. Your car's MOT failure could hardly have come at a worse time.

Lindybird thanks for the pics they are very cute. Sounds as though you are nearly sorted with the packing, make sure you have enough shoes lol. My OH only ever took a couple of pairs of shoes on holiday and never understood my need to take so many. It was silly really because I never wore all the shoes taken and the same goes for clothes. Hope you have a wonderful relaxing holiday and enjoy some good weather.

george pleased you managed a walk on Saturday before the bad weather set in again. It will be good to watch the brids now you can put food out for them again. With Sping on the way (hopefully) the birds will be very active raising their families. Good job you looked around to replace the oven. A big saving for you.

Annette can hardly believe Miss D is now 4. Where has time gone. Do enjoy your trip and time spent with the family. My view of Lady Ga Ga changed completely when I heard her singing with Tony Bennett. She has a wonderful voice and her tribute to Julie Andrews was wonderful.

Brenda we used to enjoy walking along the front in cold but bright weather and that lovely warm feeling when we got back. Sadly those days are long gone but we often walked to Sandbanks from Bournmouth stopping off for breakfast on the way.

rita what a shame the weather stopped your walk with Amber. It seems it is not good again for you today.

AQ pleased you enjoyed meet up with a friend. So annoying when a favourite piece of kitchen equipment wears out or gets lost. I managed to throw away a knife I used for cutting up vegetables and have never bern able to find a decent substitute. Having said that hope you will be able find something suitable soon.

Have a good day all and keep warm and dry.

  • I'm gutted to say I didn't get the job I really liked the look of last week.  They wanted either a full-timer or two people on job share - there was nobody applying who had hours compatible with mine.  They're going to keep my details on file, though.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Hi, Margo - we had a great time at Minsmere!  Good to hear Billie's doing well.

  • Oh, Clare:  I'm sorry to hear about the job:  I was just coming on to wish you Good Luck this week, as I didn't have time earlier (I was warbling on about nothing in particular, as usual)  Never mind, there are always better things around the corner!

OG:  Glad you watched Esio Trot - I thought it was one of the highlights of the Christmas offerings.  Although you managed to stay the course and watch it all, you don't say if you enjoyed it, but must assume that you did!!

Gosh, there's been a lot written on here since breakfast:  I shall have to find a minute to go back & read it all, but I'm busy again this morning getting ready for our Eldest to descend.  Nice to hear from Margo - hope all is OK with you.
