FEBRUARY - The days may be getting longer, but it is still our coldest month. Just a wonderful month to curl up and snooze until our osprey arrive back in Scotland. - - and Wales and England. I don't know of any in Ireland.
WendyB has recently given us a link to an Albatross family cam which should prove entertaining as we continue our countdown to the arrival of EJ and Odin. With Keith on Bioko Island for he month, he may have a few adventures to share with us.
Let us remember that February is the month of romance, too.
FAT said: Does anyone know if any nests have been repaired after the high winds earlier this month?
An excellent question, Fat. Unfortunately I don't know of any source to check for a quick answer. In my opinion, I suspect they will wait for better weather closer to time for occupancy to attempt any repairs.
If anyone has any information or thoughts or OPINIONS we would appreciate hearing from you.
Keith said: "High 91 F with Low 77 F. Humidity high with Thunderstorms. Still very wet in West Africa. Present at 06:00 - 79 F."
Keith, one feature I do like about windows 8 is that it has weather info from around the world. So I was easily able to check Malabo, Bioko Island.
Unless you like it extremely hot, I hope my forecast is more accurate than yours. My source says hi today of 88F and 86, 85, 85, 83, 86 for the rest of the week, cloudy or rain each day, lows in the 70's.
Mid 80's too high for my taste, but much better than into the 90's. For some mid-80's are ideal.
Yes June you might guess that I been around ospreys for a wee while now.
If I tell you that FAT is an acronym for Fiercely Against Tracking then my old friend the Lochter loon now known as the Dunblane Dazzler will have a big smile on his face.
Nice meeting you all again and hope to see some of you at LG this year(that includes you bright and breezy and also black jag I know you both follow the gabfest still)
Fat, Tracking is an interesting topic, one on which most osprey lovers have opinions. Here on the Gabfest, we respect your opinion, as we respect all others.
Depending on how long you have been watching Gabfest, you may be aware that in the past this subject has been much discussed and much abused. Everything and more has been said about it which needs to be said. These discussions have caused serious problems for the Gabfest.
At this time, The Gabfest cannot afford to get involved in controversy. As a newcomer, I trust that you will respect my judgement on this matter and not bring up the subject of tracking.
I do hope that you choose to be an active participant here for a long time to come. Looking forward to the eventual return of LG and Odin there are many topics of interest to be discussed.
Sanibel Osprey cam. Mama is hiding her head at the moment.
I cannot get the cam at Dunedin, but I can get their Facebook page. Might be a better source of news anyway. (SOUR GRAPES!)
A lovely picture of snow at Boat of Garten, but I would not want to need to get from one place to another through all that snow!
Postie had a hard job that day
A very interesting picture, mostly because it is very different from what we are used to. Note the family of chicks at mama's feet.
