WEEKLY CHAT (Non Osprey Topics) SUNDAY FEBRUARY 1st 2015

Where did January go? Really interesting hearing about all the new/pending pups - think you have found some surrogate owners!!!

  • Wendy - Glad to hear your oil was cheaper! It makes a change from the usual increase. We are rather selfish about the feeders, and fill them in the mornings when we can see our feathery visitors.
  • Good morning all just a quick post, we had about an inch of snow overnight which was not forecast. It does look pretty but hoping it will not hang around too long. Off to see the consultant shortly and hoping for good news again.

  • Hi Margo - how are things with you? Hope little Billie is keeping snug.

Now I see we've had crossed posts. Hope all goes well today.
  • Lindy now OH is back at work ( although from home) he is back to rising early and the Rowan tree outside his office window has a lot of bird life. I have given in and have feeders on a tree outside the bathroom window. As we are remote we have had plain glass  put in so we have a loo with a view. Got a good supply of food yesterday as I have progressed to 12 feeders so a good thing oil has come down:-)

    Happy Birthday Annette;-)

  • Margo, I see you got the snow !!  Best wishes for your consultant's appointment. X

  • Wendy - that's what I call "a room with a view"!!! LOL!!
  • I have in my years here spotted the odd Osprey flying along the line of the Spey....

OH is now used to shouting "Osprey Osprey Osprey" !!!

  • Sad event in our garden this morning. Two hooded crows attacking another one. What a racket they were making. I chased them off and the other one hopped behind a Bush, he tried unsuccessfully to fly and one claw was bent under. OH couldn't get near enough to it to cover it ,while I phoned SPCA. The young man came very quickly and got close enough to see that the attackers had gouged out one of the third bird's eyes. Then as the guy moved towards it, the injured bird managed to fly very awkwardly then disappeared. So an unsuccessful ending. I wish OH had been able to cover it but every time he got near the poor bird hopped away, surprisingly fast. The inspector asked me if the bird had any white feathers, he said that it might have been attacked by the others because it was ?genetically weak? I think that is what he said. Anyway, I have never seen such a vicious attack. They were one each side, pulling the wings and whatever. Sorry to go on, I'm quite upset:-((

  • Oh Heather, what an awful sight to witness. Like all animals, birds can be so cruel to one another. A pity the bird couldn't be caught. Hope you are sitting down with a coffee now. You did your best. X
