WEEKLY CHAT (Non Osprey Topics) SUNDAY FEBRUARY 1st 2015

Where did January go? Really interesting hearing about all the new/pending pups - think you have found some surrogate owners!!!

  • Heather: We wrapped ourselves up warm and went down the lanes to a Garden Centre and a Farm Shop this morning. Bought some peanuts for the garden birds at half the price, at the farm, of any other outlets around here. Also two slices of Millionaires Shortbread to enjoy after our lunch - yum!! In the G. Centre, my OH was disappointed not to find the type of seed potatoes he was after, but we did buy a cute spotty dog dish for someone!! Now my birds are tucking into the peanuts - we have bright sunshine here in spite of the icy winds.
  • Could indulge in a pyjama day of sorts - not expecting anyone until tonight, as our Eldest is heading back this way again for a couple of days. Glad to say that he also mentioned taking another look at my new desktop PC, which needs a whole lot of reinstalling. I am able to slob about occasionally in a smart two piece I bought last year, which is rather like the cosy onesies which seem so popular now. It has a cuddly jacket and trousers in fleece fabric, but looks much nicer, I hope!!! Can only wear it when its really cold as it gets almost too warm, LOL!!
  • "Peanuuuuts, peanuuts!" The Bluetits are here/But also the starlings and Pigeons, I fear!/I fill up the feeder, & peek through the glass/The birdies fly down quick,/The food will not last./A bright Winter's day, the garden looks nice/In spite of the cold,/And the remains of the ice./When into the cold I venture to go/I dodge all the mud, and remains of the snow/But brightening the heart/Just here and there/Are the green spears of bulbs/To give me good cheer.
  • Love the poem LINDA!!  Spring IS coming :-))

  • Very cold day here, snow showers on and off, road looks very icy.  Walked around the garden and that was our fresh air for today!

Lindybird - I love your poem, very cheering.

Lots of good Television tonight.  Looked out some old embroidery that I never finished as I need something to occupy me while I watch TV.  Have a good evening all and keep warm.

  • We went for a drive down to the coast and went for a walk. Very cold in a brisk cutting wind, but it did blow the cobwebs away !!

Liz, Thank you for starting our week.

Loved your poem, Linda. We noticed our snowdrops are ready for the flowers to open. They are traditionally known to flower on Candlemas, which is tomorrow.
I can't imagine why you bought a spotty dog dish. Not for the grandchildren, I hope. Their parents may object LOL.

Rita, You have reminded me that I have some embroidery that I have never finished, but I don't feel very enthusiastic about restarting it, though. My daughter is trying to encourage me to start knitting again as she has finished some jumpers for herself. She also wants me to teach her how to crochet.

Heather, Sorry your sleep was disturbed last night. I presume this is the neighbour. who bought Sheana's house. Poor dog must have been bothered about something.

  • Our snowdrops are beginning to come out, in the more sheltered parts of the garden. Picked some Witch Hazel to have in a vase in the house, I love the smell. Forgot to say that on our outing this morning, we saw a whole swathe of bright daffodils coming out under a hedge. We don't usually see many here this early. Rita - I have an embroidery which I left off over 15 years ago. Don't know if I'll ever finish it! I used to knit, and have kept my needles, but don't know if I'll ever take that up again, either. :-(
  • Lynette - Glad you found your phone, that must have been frustrating. Hope you enjoy sitting on your new furniture! OG - enjoyed your garden photos.
  • Brenda - good for your daughter, doing all that knitting, I believe that it is coming back into fashion now, after a long gap.  Years ago I used to knit all the time for myself and the children, I really enjoyed it and even took my knitting on holiday!  My mother was very good at all those sort of things and taught me how to crochet but somehow I did not get along very well with that.  I have always done a lot of embroidery, though I find it is a bit tiring on the eyes now and have taken to tapestry. I need something to do while watching TV otherwise I sometimes drop off to sleep!

  • Rita, like you, I also try to do something as I watch television. My OH often tells people that I don't watch television, but I listen to it. I do try to assure him that I do look at the screen, especially when needed. I am watching Country File at the moment :-))
