WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY, JANUARY 25, 2015

Happy New Week all.

Big surprise this morning!!!  Heard a knock on the front door at 8:15 and thought it was the neighbor who'd just had a load of bricks delivered to their driveway, but NO!!  It was my granddaughter, with a basket of flowers, champagne, scones she'd baked plus jars of lemon and raspberry curd on a spur-of-the-moment trip to celebrate my birthday early!!  I was amazed and thrilled. She had a few days off what with shift changes, etc., and since we don't get to spend a lot of "just us" time, she decided to drive here to spend a day with me and OH without the rest of the family buzzing about.  She even made dinner reservations at our favorite restaurant in Montecito!   You can't believe how thrilled I was - and so happy - what a special treat.  She's off to her Mom's tomorrow (daughter is not aware she's in town at all, so that'll be another unexpected treat) and they'll spend the day together before she drives back to Arizona on Monday.   So happy!

Will respond to posts tomorrow, but in the meantime, take care everyone.  :-)))))

  • Afternoon all:  While the Northeast is bracing for their storm, I'm in California whining that it's unseasonably warm and where's the rain they've been on about.  What's odd is that this storm (and I use the term loosely) is coming from the south - not at all what we'd expect this time of year. It's not supposed to bring much rain, unfortunately.

Re the Northeast storm, I was wondering if anyone ever sees/hears anything of Gary.  I know he was on the Facebook Loch Garten site, but I think that was the one that closed down (not sure what happened) but has anyone spotted him anywhere else?

Diane: Thanks for the link to Times Square - though it was getting so dark they now seem to have shut it off. Can't seem to raise the live video on the Weather Channel.  Glad you're too far west to get inundated with snow.

AQ; Happy Australia Day; hope you had some time to relax in between traffic and nanny duty.  Scones still here but 'fraid won't survive the trip to OZ. :-)

Rita: Have to say that's the first surprise of its kind I've had, so hang in there.

OG: Good you're doing better and that you have a restful week ahead. Yes, granddaughter is definitely a keeper.

Lindybird:  Will you be seeing your new dog between now and the time it comes home?  If so, maybe its personality will help narrow down the choice of names. So nice that your OH can enjoy the pup without having to worry about docs and all that.

Granddaughter now on the road home. I told her to call and let us know when she's through L.A., then we'll be waiting for the "I'm home!" phone call early evening.

    Take care everyone.

  • Lots of good news on here today - good that OG is feeling better, though obviously it will take a while to get back to whatever's normal. Take it easy and dont do too much for a bit. Good too, that Diane is alright in these dreadful sounding storms. Hope Annette gets the "I'm home!" call soon.
  • I've been rather naughty!! I had not told my Friend anything at all about our getting a dog, so today I went over to admire their new puppy, and we sat with a cup of tea and talked. Then I passed over a photo of our little pup, saying "How cute is this???!". She said " Aaaah!", then "Whose is this, then?" ------"Ours!" I replied!!!!! Jaws dropped!!!
  • Annette - we're hoping to go & visit pup shortly before our hols, to get acquainted and see how much she's grown. She'll be about 8 weeks old then. Expect we will be surprised at the difference, as they grow daily at this age. Sis in law is ringing up twice a day with name suggestions!!
  • Gary is fine - still come across his posts on Facebook sometimes. I don't use Facebook much, as I don't have time, but I'm on there because some of my family are. So I pop in and see posts from Gary, often with pics of his lovely dog Toffee.
  • Lindybird how exciting a new puppy.  I got our little girl dog in November  at 9 weeks old. She is adorable but I totally underestimated the hard work - particularly toilet training, in fact it is soul destroying at times. She loves the cat, who in turn hates her!!! Having said the above I would never ever go back in time and not have her. We start obedience classes tomorrow night and then hopefully progress to agility which being a working cooker I understand she will do very well at. I have bought various beds and blankets all of which she dislikes and piddles on, however crate training has been great and she loves her crate and happily sleeps and travels in there. Good luck and enjoy, when does puppy arrive.

  • Dau2 just phoned to say she is attempting to go to playgroup this morn. That means I don’t need to start nanny duty until she returns 11.30-ish. Of course, she will come home with 3 cranky kids all needing food instantly. Meanwhile what shall I do with unexpected 1½ hours? Not HW!

  • Thanks Lmac!!! We get her on 20th March, so will have to be patient for now! Friends of ours have used crates very successfully, but we have decided to keep her corralled in the kitchen at night and to restrict her around the house until she's dry indoors. Your puppy sounds lovely, good luck with your new member of the family.

AQ - sit down and read a book, LOL!!!
  • OG - glad to hear you are feeling a little better, rest is the answer so hope you manage it.

    HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY  AQ.

Caught the tail end of a report on the news about the incoming storm on the Eastern seaboard, do hope its not as severe as the last one.
