WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY, JANUARY 25, 2015

Happy New Week all.

Big surprise this morning!!!  Heard a knock on the front door at 8:15 and thought it was the neighbor who'd just had a load of bricks delivered to their driveway, but NO!!  It was my granddaughter, with a basket of flowers, champagne, scones she'd baked plus jars of lemon and raspberry curd on a spur-of-the-moment trip to celebrate my birthday early!!  I was amazed and thrilled. She had a few days off what with shift changes, etc., and since we don't get to spend a lot of "just us" time, she decided to drive here to spend a day with me and OH without the rest of the family buzzing about.  She even made dinner reservations at our favorite restaurant in Montecito!   You can't believe how thrilled I was - and so happy - what a special treat.  She's off to her Mom's tomorrow (daughter is not aware she's in town at all, so that'll be another unexpected treat) and they'll spend the day together before she drives back to Arizona on Monday.   So happy!

Will respond to posts tomorrow, but in the meantime, take care everyone.  :-)))))

  • Good Morning, All. Monday again already! Happy Australia Day to our Aus. friends. Glad its a bit cooler for you at the moment, AQ.
  • Good Morning Everyone. Rain overnight but hopefully, it is now drying up.

Annette, I was looking at a dog site, last night, in Ipswich, Massachusetts, and they already had 10" of snow and were extremely worried about the forecast 2' of snow, plus the gales that would blow the snow into large snow drifts.   Our TV was showing New England and New York. I do hope Diane is out of the storm's path.

    AQ, Happy Australia Day.
Pleased to read that you have cooler temperatures. We try to not drive anywhere on a bank holiday here. There always seems to be people on the roads, who don't travel anywhere at other times of the year, and are very impatient and take too many risks.

Linda, I see you are enjoying yourself looking at everything your puppy may need. My son's dog still has the teddy she first used to sleep with and it even has to travel in the car with her, but everything else gets chewed beyond recognition. LOL

  • LINDY    Really looking forward to seeing pics of the new addition to the family.

  • The forecast snow storm that Annette mentioned

  • Wish I could put them on here, dibnlib! She is cuteness beyond cute!! All eyes and ears at the moment, but a tiny upright tail which never stops wagging! We are getting a lot of suggestions for names for her, from relatives, most of which are most unsuitable LOL!!! Suppose I could always name her "Fang!".........
  • Thanks for the snow information, Brenda - it scary how much is expected but at least everyone has had some warning.
  • Monday afternoon – hello. I took a slow weekend; feeling better but not 100% yet; however, no appointments or meetings this week, so can rest a lot. I have resumed most of my domestic responsibilities! I did go for blood tests today; cancelled last week and when I phoned for this week, the person on the phone took me by surprise with an offer for today! Not sure I was really ready to go out, but good to have it over and done.

Good to read all the posts, but a bit too tired to attempt replies yet. Am enjoying the anticipation of Linda’s new four-legged-friend! What a lovely thoughtful Granddaughter you have, Annette! Our Burns night was low-key – haggis pies from our regular Farmers’ Market butcher/baker/pieman, with neeps, of course, but I also had them ready-mashed in the freezer! J put some Burns readings on his PC for us to listen too, followed by a rather irreverent Two Ronnies spoof of Scottish songs! I hope AQ had a good Australia Day hiding from the crowds - and is it really a whole year since the previous Burns’ Night followed by Australia Day? What happened to 2014?

Quite a sunny day today, but cooling quickly now; got a pork cobbler in the oven – winter warmers for dinner!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • OG pleased to see you are feeling much better but good that you can have a fairly quiet week. Take care and can I invite myself to dinner, pork cobbler sounds good.

  • Hi, folks. I saw my name mentioned earlier. No worries about me, thanks. I shouldn't be affected by the big blizzard. We are having small bouts of ice and snow as usual, but nothing major for me.

If anyone is interested:  The Weather Channel is live streaming their news coverage of the blizzard. Also, NBC News has a live snow cam in Times Square (New York City), showing the beginning of the blizzard. Edit: They have several snow cams and change the feed to various locations every few minutes.

Lindy: I am so very happy for you about the arrival of the new puppy!!!!!!!!!

Annette: What a lovely surprise by your granddaughter. Wonderful!!!!!!!!!

    Take care, all!

  • Hello All -  have not been here for a couple of days as I have been really busy with lots of jobs that were waiting to be done.  Had a nice Haggis, neeps and tatties meal last night with a good malt whisky.    I had hoped to start making marmalade today but did  not find time so will start tomorrow.

OG  so glad that you are feeling better now, so take it easy.

Annette- what a lovely surprise your grandaughter gave you, no wonder you were so happy, I would love a surprise like that!

Lindybird - What an exciting time you are having, getting together all the things you will need for the new arrival.
