WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY, JANUARY 25, 2015

Happy New Week all.

Big surprise this morning!!!  Heard a knock on the front door at 8:15 and thought it was the neighbor who'd just had a load of bricks delivered to their driveway, but NO!!  It was my granddaughter, with a basket of flowers, champagne, scones she'd baked plus jars of lemon and raspberry curd on a spur-of-the-moment trip to celebrate my birthday early!!  I was amazed and thrilled. She had a few days off what with shift changes, etc., and since we don't get to spend a lot of "just us" time, she decided to drive here to spend a day with me and OH without the rest of the family buzzing about.  She even made dinner reservations at our favorite restaurant in Montecito!   You can't believe how thrilled I was - and so happy - what a special treat.  She's off to her Mom's tomorrow (daughter is not aware she's in town at all, so that'll be another unexpected treat) and they'll spend the day together before she drives back to Arizona on Monday.   So happy!

Will respond to posts tomorrow, but in the meantime, take care everyone.  :-)))))

  • HAPPY BURNS NIGHT to ALL our Scottish friends.

Sorry I won't be eating a haggis. I really don't like them, but I do love seeing and hearing the haggis being addressed. An ex neighbour used to invite us each year to their celebrations.

  • A dull sky today, but lots of people out and about enjoying the dry weather. We were good, and only had tea & coffee on our outing without any of the yummy looking cakes or gateaux on offer. We found a dog bed we both liked, after much discussion about sizes! Hard to imagine that a tiny, fuzzy puppy who fits into my OH's hand will one day need a proper dog bed, but I wanted her to have the same bed from the start so that she will feel it's her own little sanctuary. Also got a puppy lead & collar. I didn't get any toys, but will probably sneak a few into the house when my OH isn't looking! Long discussions about possible names are ongoing........
  • LINDY - I'm enjoying your preparation for the new puppy. My OH's last beloved dog, Spud, was a Springer/cocker cross. OH took him in because Spud was 'gun shy'.

No haggis here today,I will make it for OH in a few days time, maybe. I don't partake :-( and forgot to buy one.

    I think I've been forgiven.
  • Ahh, poor Spud, gun shy! I saw a few adverts for adult spaniels who were gun shy, some of them looked really nice but we had decided that this time we would have a puppy we could train ourselves from the outset. We are looking at various photos of "our" puppy, which are now dotted around the house! She is nearly an hour away from us (Cheshire is a big county) so we will only see her again just before we go away, when we hope to see how she is faring. Of course, I shall get the camera out again then.
  • Morning all: Granddaughter now with daughter who was as amazed and thrilled as I was to see her. Last night we had a lovely dinner out (but OH ended up picking up the tab coz, he says, in response to her insistence that it was "her" treat, "It's a treat for us just having you here."  Big smiles.  She and daughter now planning an easy day together and planning to way lay grandson with similar surprise visit.

Have read everyone's posts but may not try to respond since am now a day behind on all kinds of things.  Take care everyone (I thought I saw that Lindybird was going somewhere, but she's still here....)

  • Hi Annette, sounds as if you all enjoyed yourselves, how nice it sounds. No, I have only been out for a coffee today! I was mentioning "going away" in the context of how we are off at the end of February, after which we can collect our new little treasure. My OH has been watching a James Bond film this afternoon, so I've had chance to peruse the Pet Supplies on various sites LOL!!
  • I also thought that you were going away soon, LINDY. Nice to know we've got you here for a few weeks longer!

Yawning like anything, so going to put Kindle away and plug in earphones and listen to the radio.

As they often say on Radio 4 at close down, have a peaceful safe and quiet night, everyone.

  • Hm, I guess by now I’ve missed out on the scones & curd. However I’m happy with haggis, expecting delivery any moment! I’ve been waiting for a cool day for a photo excursion to Clare (the SA town, not our friend here). We have cool days, 23 C, yesterday and today. Alas, it is a long weekend (Australia Day) and the roads are busy with crazy drivers trying to get wherever too fast. We shall stay quietly at home. OH is pottering in the garden.

  • Annette - thanks for starting us off.   So thrilled for you and hope you enjoyed your surprise day with your granddaughter.

    Oh yes, Happy Burns Night.

Went to a Burns supper with dancing, organised by our church, on Friday night and really enjoyed it. I am quite partial to haggis but haven't bought any or seen any since living down here.  Had two helpings of Tatties, Neeps, and Haggis on Friday!!!!!!

  • Sorry I'm late, but hope everyone who observes Burns Night had a good time.

The Slooh folks are showing us another close encounter with a large  asteroid tomorrow (Monday).  It starts at 8 a.m. our time; that's 4 p.m. UK time and 2:30 a.m. I think, in Adelaide. Google Slooh if you're interested.

Diane: Hope that huge storm the media are getting hysterical about slips by you.

    Night all.
