Happy New Week all.
Big surprise this morning!!! Heard a knock on the front door at 8:15 and thought it was the neighbor who'd just had a load of bricks delivered to their driveway, but NO!! It was my granddaughter, with a basket of flowers, champagne, scones she'd baked plus jars of lemon and raspberry curd on a spur-of-the-moment trip to celebrate my birthday early!! I was amazed and thrilled. She had a few days off what with shift changes, etc., and since we don't get to spend a lot of "just us" time, she decided to drive here to spend a day with me and OH without the rest of the family buzzing about. She even made dinner reservations at our favorite restaurant in Montecito! You can't believe how thrilled I was - and so happy - what a special treat. She's off to her Mom's tomorrow (daughter is not aware she's in town at all, so that'll be another unexpected treat) and they'll spend the day together before she drives back to Arizona on Monday. So happy!
Will respond to posts tomorrow, but in the meantime, take care everyone. :-)))))
Evening all:
58Willow: Nice to hear from a lurker. :-)
Lindybird: 10 minutes? Amazing!
AQ: Was thinking of your daughter today during a radio interview with a woman who's written a book about modern parenting: All Joy, No Fun. One topic that came up was the effect that chronic sleep deprivation has on new parents: Apparently, 1/3 are more or less okay with it, another 1/3 are crabby but function pretty normally, and the other 1/3 are completely shattered and don't function well at all (that would be my group). Am also trying to figure out where/when the Australian Open women's final will be playing. I think it's in another 12 hours or so from our time....
Off to bed.
Good Morning. Snowing quite hard here at the moment so we have cancelled our Cactus Club meeting until next Saturday . I am quite relieved. Re- feeding babies and lack of sleep, I have never needed a lot of sleep compared to some people so I coped quite well and I was also very lucky in that all three of my babies learned to go through the night without a feed very quickly. I did so want a fourth but my husband put his foot down, I do not think he could cope with the truly dreadful sickness that I had for the first three or four months which meant that he had to help a lot with children housework, shopping etc, and working as well. My daughter, on the other hand, has always needed a lot of sleep and felt absolutely exhausted for months when she had my grandson, I think it also was due to the fact that she was not young, 42 years old.
Good Morning ALL. A frosty start here this morning. Just had a light sleet shower. I hope you are all safe and warm.We heard last night that my niece's 18 year old dog had died. He was their first 'baby' when they got married, so they are very upset.
Glad to hear your meeting has been cancelled, Rita. You must have a lot of snow by now, especially as it is still snowing. Take care.
Annette, Re sleep deprivation, I must be in the "shattered " group. My son, never slept for long and was fed on demand. My daughter was a 'text book' baby. Feed / sleep / change, but son was then an active 20 month old !! I don't know how my OH managed to go to work, but hey, we all survived. LOL
Hello all
I started 'liking' but realised on going back that there were quite a lot of posts and that is great! So a mega 'like' to everyone.
Daughter 2 phoned this morning, wanting to take me out for lunch, so she and I, Callum and Amy went to Zizzi. My OH doesn't particularly like that sort of food so he stayed at home and enjoyed soup and crusty bread.
I saw Sheana yesterday. She is quite convinced that she is going to Canada and also on a cruise somewhere. 'They' are broadcasting this from the room next door to her. She has no infection apparently, it is just the way things are, with her mind. It has been around for at least three years, just more obvious sometimes. She is looking forward to her 97th birthday on March 10th.
I'm so glad that ANNETTE discovered that the little terrier did have an owner.
My grandson Sam went with his parents for the 20 week scan, yesterday. He asked loads of questions,it seems and was allowed to 'listen in'. I wish that I had been there to hear his enquiries...
Morning all:
Heather: How nice! An invite to lunch. But soup and crusty bread sounds great too. Poor S; just hope you don't have to pack her bags for that cruise (sounds like one of those New England/Canada color cruises they put on in the Fall).
Rita: 42 with a new baby? Eeeek.
Brenda: Lots of dogs out would love a new home with your niece but maybe it's too early to think about that...
See that Serena Williams won the womens' singles in the Australian Open
Hi all, not been on since about Wednesday and see there are another 7 pages which I won't trawl through this late in the week. Do hope everyone is OK and that ailments etc are on the wane and you are all feeling a lot better (that is those who have been ill).
Thursday was a fraught day as I mislaid my phone and couldn't find it anywhere. We had decided to go out to look at second hand 3pce suites instead of the gym but couldn't really concentrate. In the end we ended up at DFS and brought a brand new suite. Got home and started looking around again , picked up my copying paper and out dropped the phone, whew, what a relief.Don't know why I hadn't realised it was there before we went out as I had searched near where the paper was before.
The weekend forecast is pretty grim with gales, snow showers, rain and sleet in some parts. Stay warm and dry folks and have a lovely weekend. Already at the end of Jan and into Feb tomorrow.

OG - just looked at those pics, they are great. Don't seem to get the goldfinches at present but getting sparrows, starlings, blue and coal tits and finches. Do hope the family are OK as they were regular feeders.
