WEEKLY CHAT (Non-osprey) SUNDAY,JANUARY 18. 2015

Hi all!

  • Good afternoon. Stretched lunch to three of us – J and I not very hungry anyway. What was that they said about “no precipitation” today? – so what is that white stuff falling from the sky? – but thankfully not much of it, and sun still shining. Sending OH to Tesco – gutter man has been, and I think OH would prefer shopping to cleaning, which was scheduled today if he had to stay at home!

Rita – do take care moving your car down the slope! No list for me, just do what I can and leave the rest – still shivering although heating is turned up an extra degree today.

Linda – surely that house will be damp as well as cold? Not very pleasant for the workmen.

Now going to check a couple of magazines from beside my chair and then throw them out: probably nothing in them to save.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Phew! Car now safely back in garage, I drove it very slowly down the  slope(sheer ice)as one side of the drive is my garden wall and the other side a lochan (small Loch) and I did not want to end up in the water!

  • Annette - Broadchurch is a good series. I just finished an old series of "The Last Detective". Wonderfully done. Just started "Sherlock" as I loved Benedict Cumberbatch in "Parade's End". Would highly recommend both. I am a great fan of all BBC's series.

Rita - I too make lists just for the pleasure of crossing items off. The list also keeps me on the straight and narrow until they're done.

  • Bjane - I make lists, then lose them LOL!! Rita - glad you & car are back safe! OG - They have also been busy replastering the rooms since ripping out the old wiring, so it must be damp!
  • I loved Parade's End, too. Got some of the books on my Kindle after that.
  • Everyone: Take Note - new series of 'Winterwatch' starts this evening at 9.00pm on BBC2.
  • Morning all: Foggy and cool here today; I see more garden clean up in the forecast.

Lindybird: We won't get Halifax or Midwife until later this year, so that's something to look forward to. My sister says that Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies are showing - or about to show - over there too. Apparently, author Hilary Mantel worked closely with the producers and is happy with the series - another one we'll see later.  We watched the first three episodes of Broadchurch; six more to go - a second series on the horizon too.  My very favorite so far is George Gently.

OG: Oh dear, sounds like a really nasty bug at your house. Best wishes for fast recovery for everyone.  What kind of trip was your grandson due to take to Houston?  Not wild about that city, but he might have found Fort Worth interesting (cowboy history) and New Orleans (wonderful!) is just along the coast at bit; well, 300 miles.

WendyB: Your comment about Lundy diverted me for about 30 minutes!  I remember the name from geography lessons. They've got a lovely website and the Trust has done a fabulous job of restoring the old buildings, which they rent out. Then there was a link to Aldeburgh, where I went with my sister a few years back, and the Martello Towers, so I got on Google Earth to go "visit."

Heather: Good that Callum has some kids of his own age; I bet he's feeling more comfortable. I remember going to a restaurant alone when I was about his age and finding a fish knife on the table and being absolutely  mortified that I didn't know what it was.

Rita: Watch out with all that ice!  Ah, I see it's safely home. :-)

bjane: Haven't heard about Last Detective, but it's on my list now. Thanks!  We have the new Sherlock here too, but somehow missed some of it last time round...  I also missed Parade's End; can't remember why but I'm sure it'll be on again.  I'm also a Benedict C fan.   The first installment of Grantchester was on last night. OH and I recorded it - three+ hours of Broadchurch followed by Part 3 of the new Downtown was quite enough TV for one night.

Margo: Hope you had a nice weekend with your OH and that the sunshine and blue skies are still with you.  (Thanks Brenda for passing on that news.)

Was planning to go to yoga this afternoon, but it's Martin Luther King day here, so some things are closed (no mail/street sweeping, etcl)  I'm sure Costco will be open though...

    Take care everyone.

For once I have a problem what to watch and what to record. LOL  Broadchurch and Silent Witness are also on at 9pm.

  • I agree with you Brenda -  very difficult choice.

  • Sorry just a quick look in but have read all your posts, thank you. RITA- so glad that you got your car in without damaging the wall or falling in the lochan!

OG- What a gem EE is, worth his weight in gold. I hope that you and J will feel better soon and that EE stays bug free xx

Everyone, take care, sorry again about short replies but this evening it's not Callum, it's Sheana. She must have an infection or something , she keeps phoning to tell me that 'they' are talking about her all the time saying thatshe should have gone to Glasgow yesterday but it didn't happen, she wears lovely clothes most of which she made herself, she hears all these things and also the television is broadcasting about her. I have phoned the Home and alerted them.

She generally doesn't talk about these thoughts to the staff because she thinks that they are 'in on it'.
