WEEKLY CHAT (Non-osprey) SUNDAY,JANUARY 18. 2015

Hi all!

  • Good Morning. More snow here in the night, but just a scattering. My OH has been texting his golf buddies and they have called off today's game. Annette - My Friend has been enjoying Broadchurch but I missed the beginning so never got into it. Great episodes of Midwife and Last Tango in Halifax last night.
  • Good morning. A cold start, but not as cold as most parts of Scotland, and sunshine just beginning. J is not going to work and has phoned doc as he is coughing blood. I have the cold – couldn’t stop shivering last night, so OH packed me round with hot water bottles and put the heating on; this makes me more congested, but I did get some sleep, whereas first two hours lying there shivering were unbearable.

Brenda – the book clearance was from three of us, and they weren’t huge boxes! For years I refused to part with any book, as books have always been important to me, but I am now prepared to let some go! We are still getting a few crocus blooms, but I think this means we shan’t have our usual bowls full of their colour in spring.

Rita - good to see that cactus meeting could go ahead, and the flood water didn’t get into your home. I think we shall all be glad to see more signs of spring, yet it hasn’t been a bad winter, just variable and unpredictable.

Linda – road here thawed and dried in sunshine yesterday, so doesn’t seem slippy this morning – but I’m glad I can stay indoors! We are awaiting gutter man again as his fix didn’t work last visit! Lucky you, finding those family trees. There is no way that will happen here as my mother was a real full-on flinger (declutterer or downsizer, worse than I) and on OH’s side, his SiL took everything, and since she has really bad Alzheimer’s … .

Heather – poor Callum; being old enough to work through an apprenticeship does not mean mature in life skills! If he missed all his meals yesterday, I hope he got a hearty breakfast today!

Well, lubrication needed for throat, so off to find yet another cup of coffee!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Good Morning from a very chilly part of the world....

with all the predictions of minus something silly we kept the woodburner stoked up and the gutter heaters on. Looks like sheet ice under snow but road has been sorted so Daisy will be getting a road walk. Something she hates but needs must.

Lindybird I wonder if relations way back could be related to the Heavens from Devon. A Rev Heaven bought Lundy Island way back and whilst there built this rather grand church which has always seemed over the top considering the population of the island even then. It suffers even now from wind damage and I think it is cause for great expense by the Landmark Trust to keep watertight. When I first visited the island 40 years ago there was a resident population with children going to the mainland for school and back in the holidays. The farmers daughter was studying music and played the organ beautifully for us at Sunday service.

Visiting again in March but the feel now is not of a community but a gorgeous island with itinerant staff so no children anymore.

Well have a good day as I must go and do ...something!!

  • Good morning all

I was so wrapped up in Callum's supper issues last night that I forgot to say anything else! Especially, to RITA - about her threatened flooding. I hope that everything will be OK. It was -7.6 here last night and is now -4 and a beautiful clear day.

    The latest news about grandson

is that he now has a room mate who arrived late last evening. There is seemingly a group of Audi apprentices in the hotel, all the same age and stage of training so there will be safety in numbers regarding the restaurant! They will all meet up today, hopefully at breakfast...

LINDY I hope that the poem comes back into your head soon!

Have a good day everyone and stay warm. OH is off to the bowls.

  • Wendy - pleased the gritter has sorted the road, and I hope Daisy will forgive the limited walk! Interesting about the Heaven family of Lundy; I remember how you love the island!

Heather – sounds like Callum will do better with company of his own age and experience. Our elder Grandson’s latest trip to Houston has been cancelled – not sure if it is due to oil industry cut-backs or international travel issues. Was pleased to see a good outcome to your OH’s recent infection and check-up.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Good Morning Everyone. We only went down to -1.8c last night. Rather cloudy here now.

Heather, Pleased to hear that Callum has now got company at his hotel. I hope he likes his room mate.

  • OG, Sorry to hear that 'J' needs to see the Dr. and you had such a bad night. Trouble with J's job is that the children pass on their germs to him and he then brings them home to you. Hope you both recover quickly.

Wendy, Poor Daisy, but at least it must be somewhat safer for your OH. It would be interesting if the 'Heaven's' of Devon. do have any connection to Linda. Definitely a project for Linda.

  • Hello All -   Very cold this morning,  - 6C when I last checked.  The gritter still has not been down our road: hard compacted snow and just like a skating rink!   the risk of flooding has gone now so I must get the car back down and in to the garage.        I have made a list of 10 things I must do today but I doubt if I will manage them all now, I just like the feeling of ticking things off as I go!

OG -   So sorry to hear that both you and J are not well, hope you will both keep warm and recover as soon as possible.

Heather -   Glad to hear that Callum now has a room mate of his own age, much better for him to have someone else to go about with.

Have a good day all and keep warm.

  • Hello! Its just started snowing again, here, but its only very light. The Workmen next door are busy taking out half of the windows and replacing the double glazing! It must be very cold indeed in that house as there's been no heating in it since last winter: they ripped out the central heating and all of the electrics last summer.
  • Rita - Do be careful moving the car!! It sounds bad there. OG - Sorry that you and J both have colds again, its no fun.
