Alan Petrie - Hope you get my query. I was aked this question this morning on the phone but I said I know someone who may be able to help us.

What are the latest statistics for raptor/osprey crossing the straits this past week.

I think this may give us a benchmark for what we may see returning to UK this coming week.

Looking at 30(05) in 2014 left for migration 11th and made the crossing on 18th.

This year left a day earlier on 10th and probably crossed on the 20th as she was roosting in Morocco on the 19th.

I can see from this some days delay and is this the case for reported sightings at the straits or are we seeing reduced numbers from some that may have not battled the winds.

I think these days use last year's dates as the benchmark, but we have seven overdue birds at the moment.  Yellow 30(05) was 'blown' off course on her journey north.  Perhaps these winds are affecting others too
