WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 2014

Hallo all.

  • Morning all:  Most hose down soon and off to Costco when they open the doors, so a quick look in here.

OG: Did your guy ever arrive? If you need more sweary words, Diane and I have a good selection!  Sprinklers are set for early morning and on a programmed sequence so didn't want to interrupt it; it was an easy fix. We've already turned off the mini-sprinklers along the parkway coz they tend to spray some water into the gutter, which sends it down the drains - a major no-no. Our drought-tolerant garden is doing okay, but that only means the plants don't thrive, but don't die either.  A possible storm forecast in another week; fingers crossed it stays on track.

Brenda: Looks like OH and I are meeting daughter for brunch on Thanksgiving, with grandson a possible addition.  Do you have two cars? Not sure we could manage to share one (not to mention our huge old truck that is almost a piece of street art at this point - we're actually thinking of selling it).

George:  Can't imagine having to clean up great muddy paw prints all the time; good luck with that this winter.

Lynette: Are all the HP exhibits life-sized? Glad you had a good time.

    Margo: Hope you're doing okay.

Off to hose down; take care everyone.

  • Hello to all!

Thank you AQ for the rest of your pictures and also the gorgeous photo of the girls' christening.

And Lynette - our cupboard under the stairs is always called Harry Potter!

Everyone - I have decided not to read back so I have to assume that all is well with you. Just been so busy and in fact fell asleep this afternoon. Phone rang, chap on the other end asked to speak to OH. I did as usual, screened the call for OH and he said it was about Stock Market etc. I told him that we were in Tenerife, that's how sleepy I was!

Amy had her insulin pump fitted, daughter#2 has been checking levels every three hours day and night. Both are very tired but Amy's glucose levels are better than before.

OG Did your man ever arrive?

ANNETTE I hope that you are resting a bit!

DIANE - I always assume that you will have plenty of food stored, hope I am right.

We had a good holiday but nothing worth getting excited about. Tenerife is still Tenerife, streets a bit scruffier, I thought. We have now given up our Timeshare there so it was our last visit. I think that holidays from now on will be in Europe. After nineteen visits to Tenerife I don't think that I will be too sad. OH was a bit sad though, as we closed the door of our apartment for the last time.

    Take care, all -

  • He arrived somewhere in town about 6:10 so our house alarm detected disconnection of the old system; came here about 6:25 and left about 7:15 - having needed prompting to do some of the stuff (eg testing) which we had been told was part of the job.  All in all, quite unsatisfactory, but final result is correct and we are now "cooking on gas".

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • HeatherB - glad to hear Amy's insulin levels are getting better. Yes, it must be tiring but hopefully things will improve once the levels are acceptable.

OG - glad to hear that eventually you are connected.  What a fiasco but at least its sorted now.

  • OG - "cooking on gas"?  Thought it was a BT engineer you were waiting on for upgrading your internet not the gasman!!  Do you ever hear from patriciat - hope she is well.

AQ - how old are the twins now, and has there been any further input from nanny help?

George - when I had a dog, years ago, I used to "bucket bath" her paws before letting her in the house with muddy feet!!

  • Evening all:

OG:  Gosh - your repair person showed up at dinner time; that's wonderfully (in)convenient.  Had to Google "cooking on gas" to confirm my guess as to its meaning; let's hope all your prompting ensures things stay that way.

Heather:  Great to see you and good to read that Amy's glucose levels are under control BUT not good to read about how tired Dau#2 and the patient are due to the awful regimen.  How long must that go on, do you think?  You can spend the cold UK winter planning where to go on holiday next year!

Dentist is on the agenda for tomorrow; oh joy!

    Take care all.

  • Good morning all

Just a quick look in as I have to be at the hairdresser by 1045, no shower yet!

I looked at my post from last evening and must apologise, it sounds as if I didn't enjoy our holiday at all indeed I sound positively grumpy. Not really so, I'm just not a fan of 'do nothing' holidays. It is one of those situations, OH likes the opportunity to chill and also play petanque and I can only read and relax for so long, before getting restless. However our holidays in Tenerife have come to a natural end as the Timeshare company have changed the terms of occupancy. Along with many others we have voted with our feet.

Must fly, just wanted to dispel any rumours that I am turning into a Grumpy Old Woman :-)))

  • Good morning all and after a beautiful day yesterday the rain has returned. Was so,pleased we had the good weather day as Sister and I did just about all all our Christmas shopping in just under five hours. Just a few odds and ends to get now. OH can never understand how quickly we seem to do it but we plan this trio like a military operation listing all the shops we want to visit and which present comes from each shop. It was quite chilly but since my blood levels have improved I do feel the cold quite so much. Most unusually Billie has been out a couple of times this morning. She seems to have a fixation with the pond at the moment and wants to drink from that as well as all the bird baths. Trouble is every time she comes in I have to follow her around wiping up muddy footprints.

Annette that seemed most unlike you to feel creaky but pleased you are feeling better now. Perhaps all that digging left you a bit spent. Wish we could send you some of the rain we are having but I hope the storm forecast will arrive. Hope dentist visit will not incur any huge costs. Woukd love to see a pic of your truck which is now a a work of art.

diane love reading about your wildlife that visit and nice to know your red tailed hawk is still watching over you. Have been reading that the weather is warmer of late but do you still have snow laying.

AQ thanks for the finale to your trip and latest pics. Glad you enjoyed all the travel and what have you got planned for 2015. Lovely pics of Misses J and L on their christening day. Beautiful little girls looking very healthy.

OG that is one of the many good things about being on line and able to check if items are in stock and then reserving for pick Up. Does away with wasted journeys and having to go to different outlets to find what you want. Your frustration shone  through in your post last evening, sweary words in abundance but I find that hard to believe.

george I know you will have been delighted with the Grand Prix result. He and his family looked overjoyed. You will get used to the Ipad, I am still learning and I have had mine for over a year. The description of Diesel's paws as powder puffs made me smile.

Brenda hope you enjoyed your bowls yesterday, I think the comments Steve is said to have made about Ola did not help him although I do think he found dancing very difficult and at the end of the day it was the right decision. Unfortunately we are at the lint where good dancers will go. The standard has been very high this year.

Lyneete so,pleased you enjoyed the Harry Potter day despite the weather. Some really good pics.

Heather nice to see you back, hope you managed to relax although you were probably worried Amy and your daughter, they must both be absolutely shattered. How long will this regime have to go on.  Must have been strange after19 years to leave the time share for the last time. Will give you a ring soon.

Still raining and has gone very dark so hopefully Billie will not want to go out again.

have a good day all and take care.

  • Hello, Everyone!!    Yes, I'm back with my ramblings and all....

We have had an enjoyable, restful time: more details later.  For now, suffice it to say that the rain we had was at least warm rain, unlike in UK!!  And after many, many years of starting my packing with putting into the suitcase our lightweight rain jackets, this is the first time I have ever forgotten them.....    We even used to joke during other holidays "Fancy packing raincoats!" when the sun was beating down on us.

We had a good journey out and arrived at night.  The next day it was sunny and restful.  Every single day after that it rained, either solidly with thunder & lightening thrown in, or in spasms!!  LOL!!

Have not had time yet to look back over your posts but hope all is well with everyone.  Back later when Ive refilled the washing machine which is opening its jaws.

  • Welcome back to Heather and Linda. Pity about the warm rain, Linda, but so good to hear you had an "enjoyable and restful time."

Good to hear you also enjoyed yourself. Heather. Sorry that Amy and her Mum are so tired, but hopefully it will all be worth it in the end. I have never thought of you as a "grumpy, old woman." Quite the reverse, in fact.

OG, At least, the BT man did arrive, eventually. It is even worse when they don't arrive at all :-))

Liz, like you, our dog was trained, from when he was a pup, to wait until his feet were washed and dried before he entered the house. I do love George's description of Diesel's feet looking like powder puffs.

Lynette, Glad you enjoyed the Harry Potter Tour. It reminded me of our trip last year.

Annette, We only have one car at the moment as we sold mine last year, but as OH hasn't driven for the last year, it hasn't been a problem. Hopefully, we will be buying a second car shortly.

Margo, The rain you mentioned to me this morning, arrived after lunch and hasn't stopped yet. I finished all the washing / HW and have been ironing this evening, so I feel ready for my bed now. At least I can get up in the morning without worrying about what needs doing. LOL

OH has got football on the TV but he is on his laptop and doesn't seem to be looking at the tv. I am tempted to switch it off and see if he notices :-)) He has never supported Man. City.!!
