Morning all: Check back the last page of the previous week to catch up with bits and bobs of news.
We put our clocks back tonight - and I also pulled out the space heater as my feet are cold and I haven't dug out my toasty slippers yet. We had more lovely showers today, but it's supposed to warm up later this week for a few days. We're in this in-between stage when it's quite warm during the day but decidedly cooler at night.
OG; Thanks for letting us know Diane is expecting snow; I hope it's not too severe. My NY friends are dreading a repeat of last winter, when the temps dropped sharply early in the winter and stayed there all winter.
Take care all.
Hello all
Just a quickie, thank you for posts, everyone. Bit of a drama here - granddaughter Amy(type 1 diabetes) in hospital last night, glucose levels high and nausea. She got out this afternoon but is poorly again and being readmitted. Her Mum loses wages if she doesn't work so I am trying to take my turn at the bedside! I hope everything settles down before Friday when OH and I are supposed to be leaving for Tenerife.
Packing? What packing? I have thrown clothes into cases.
I hope to catch up with you all before long xx
Heather sorry to read Amy is unwell, what a worry for Mum and you. Fingers crossed things will calm down and she wii be back at home soon. X
Heather - so sorry to hear that Amy is in Hospiital, do hope that she will be better before you go away - so worrying for her mother.
Thank you MARGO and RITA, yes it is a worry for her Mum and these are the times when my daughter once again feels the sorrow, anger, call it what you will, regarding the marriage break up---
Margo - so lovely to hear that you have been able to do things that you haven't felt like doing for ages. Keep up the glasses of red wine for as long as you are able before the chemo starts again. I have just poured myself a glass. Friends of mine went over to France and week or two back to watch a rugby match and brought some wine back that I wanted - handy to have someone to go over and bring it back for you!
OH took me out for lunch today to a lovely village in South Northants (about 30 miles from where we live). It is a village where he has umpired in the summer. Quintessential with houses all round the village green and the cricket pitch and football pitch on the green itself.
Off to the gym in the morning for twice weekly swim. Pool was busy for a short time on Tues but slackened off so hope its not too full otherwise you are fighting for space.

Just read all your news. Cold and frosty morning here too. Dau has had to scrape windscreen 2 mornings as a light frost enveloped.
George - hope you enjoyed your wine tasting.
Won't even start to Ch.....shop until after Dau's birthday mid Nov. I do tend to do it all on the net these days, quicker and relatively pain free.
Made Christmas cakes (1 for son) at the beginning of the week, laced with brandy, so have left them to mature with one more dousing of brandy to go in about a fortnight.Mmmmmm.
So sorry Heather. So worrying for you all, especially for your daughter. It must also be frightening for poor Amy. I will say a prayer for you all tonight. Take care of yourself. X
Heather - Hope you have better news soon. I have added Amy to my prayer list.
I escaped yesterday for a short excursion around suburbs with camera plus I visited an Elderly in nursing home. So sad, she asked the same questions 3 times over. Thanks for your support after my moan about Dau. If she puts Miss3 into childcare, Dau still has to get her there & pick up. It means clock watching & taking twins – can’t just leave them alone - and it is expensive IF one can find a place. I can’t see a solution unless the wee ones mature quickly.
WA trip cont. The afternoon was free, so I wandered around the old buildings & churches. Next morning we visited the former whaling station, now a discovery centre & botanic garden. Former oil storage tanks have been converted to theatres. Last time I visited Albany (in 1971), they were still capturing whales. They stopped in 1978. A skink was sunning itself on the deck & I saw another disappearing into shrubbery bordering the path. I had a ginormously thick salad sandwich for lunch in their cafe.
Then we visited a few places in the Torndirrup National Park , finding wildflowers and, down by the granite coastline viewing the Natural Arch & The Gap. Again we had a free afternoon. Luckily it was the day the Albany Wildflower Society was holding a wildflower exhibition in the Anglican church hall, in the main street. Perfect timing! I had a delicious meal in the motel dining room, just entree & dessert. Next morning we packed up & moved on after 3 nights, 2 days in & around Albany. My pics HERE.
I wonder how many questions I have forgotten to answer. Here goes one. Annette – Our train was 28 carriages with 2 engines & I guess a baggage car. Staff said the max is 30 carriages. The front of the train has the Red Service (sit-up people), then Gold Service (us), lounge & Queen Adelaide dining car & finally the elite, the Platinum Service. Hm, I must check how much Platinum Service costs, though we were quite comfortable & happy in the middle class!!! I see Adelaide gets a mention in the videos – for a Cocolat shop. Yeay!
Evening all: Well, as far as our elections go, you win some, you lose some.
Brenda: Obama had a difficult time with the Repubs, who committed themselves to a policy of obstruction, right from the start. Of course, he hasn't helped much the last few years, but enough of all that. The pendulum swings back and forth...
Margo: Was going to say, watch out Billie doesn't make it into the washing machine, but sounds like that threat is gone for now. Oh go on, be naughty and have another glass or two of wine!
Rita: Any explanation for the improved eyesight?
Lindybird: Where have I been!? Who's the third grandchild?
Heather: Very best thoughts for Amy and daughter; fingers crossed here too that things are much better by Friday. Do let us know.
Lynette: Lunch in that village sounds like a nice treat! Cake sounds WONDERFUL. Do you serve it with whipped cream/ice cream/custard?
AQ: Smiled, in spite of myself, at the thought of being called an "Elderly." I also wondered (as did Brenda) if Dau2's doc could recommend extended nanny care. What about an au pair/student live in? Those churches look so English! Some nice architectural details there in the Albany buildings. But 28 carriages? That's a very long train! Looked at the videos and decided the Platinum Service would suit me just fine. :-) So, have you been to the Cocolat shop?
Did a lot of leaf-raking this morning and have more pre-winter work awaiting in the garden. You think not much happens in a garden in winter, but then here comes spring and you realize it all went to pot while you were busy with Christmas, etc.! Went off to gym this p.m. and home for easy dinner and to watch the news (a post-mortem on the election results). Both sides claim they're going to work together, but where have I heard that before! :-)
Anyway, hope all are well. Have a good Thursday.
