Morning all: Check back the last page of the previous week to catch up with bits and bobs of news.
We put our clocks back tonight - and I also pulled out the space heater as my feet are cold and I haven't dug out my toasty slippers yet. We had more lovely showers today, but it's supposed to warm up later this week for a few days. We're in this in-between stage when it's quite warm during the day but decidedly cooler at night.
OG; Thanks for letting us know Diane is expecting snow; I hope it's not too severe. My NY friends are dreading a repeat of last winter, when the temps dropped sharply early in the winter and stayed there all winter.
Take care all.
Good afternoon all not a lot happening here just trying to walk when it is dry but it is getting that underfoot is getting muddy which Diesel doesn't mind but you have to remember to wipe his paws when you come back and he is not very pleased when you do that.
The car is in for it's MOT today so I am just waiting on a phone call to say that it is ready or not the mechanic who usually does my repairs etc left on Friday so I don't know what the new one will be like.
On Thursday I amgoing with the cousins to a wine tasting and as I haven't been to one before it is a new experience. I went in to see my SiL on Friday and she is so organised that she was just finishing writing her CRI****** cards and she has all the presents wrapped as well I haven't even thought about it.
Hope everyone keeps well and warm as while out walking in the morning I am starting to think about putting on warmer coat.

GEORGE I haven't even started packing for holiday starting on Friday, never mind Christmas!! Enjoy the wine tasting :-)
BRENDA your weather sounds like ours has been this afternoon. Previously Benson has refused to go for a walk in the rain so this afternoon I didn't bother with over trousers or my wellies as I was convinced he would say no thanks. Guess what he was most enthusiastic so despite the fact I had a waterproof on we both arrived back "drookit". I wonder if this is a sign of things to come or a one off??
It is chilly here too, today, and there a little bit of snow on the top of Scafell. It certainly rained heavily yesterday afternoon though! I want to mend some rotten wood on my gate but it has been too wet. I should have done it in the summer!
It is quieter this week, and it is fair enough if it gets too busy sometimes, as I feel lucky to be living in such a nice area.
Also, I am a tourist when I go away, eg to Wales.
After a sunny afternoon, we now have rain and thunder.
Heather, I am not sure you should be taking full responsibility for Sheana, although I know you would want to know of any accident or illness. It is time her nephew realised what NoK really means and for a start, visited more regularly, even though he lives so far away. I am sure he will suggest that you should be the first contact. The home definitely should have made contact when Sheana fell. Do as OG says, go and enjoy your holiday, you deserve it.
Dibnlib, Certainly sounds as if Benson has changed his attitude to rain. Sorry you both got so wet, though. It must be very muddy underfoot too, so make sure you don't slip or fall.
Linda, Pleased to hear you had an enjoyable rest. I really do think that it was one of your best decisions, to buy your Welsh retreat.
Chrisy, You do live in a wonderful area. When we lived on the coast, there were times when I resented all the visitors, but as you say, we are all ' day trippers' when we visit various places.
George, A wine tasting could be enjoyable, but who is going to drive home LOL. You are not the only one, who hasn't started thinking about Christmas yet, I couldn't start buying presents for my children, especially, as each year gets more difficult.
Hi! Day started frosty, then foggy, then sunny, then very wet in Carlisle but apparently less so here at home. Two-part lunch was good – Cumberland Rarebit before the lecture, then Carrot cake afterwards. The lecture was short – probably would not have gone if we realised how short – but interesting. We made the trip worthwhile calling in a couple of shops on the outskirts of Carlisle on the way home.
Brenda – nice to see old friends – looks as if you had plenty of catching up to do. Glad you hadn’t managed to catch flu before your late jabs!
George – good to see your post; it must be difficult dodging this unpredictable weather for Diesel’s walks, and we well remember wet and muddy Spaniel feet! I hope the car passed the MoT without problems. Enjoy the wine-tasting with the Cousins. I haven’t addressed cards yet for Christmas, but I did finish making them all when I was convalescing from flu, and I have been buying gifts as and when I see them. OH has changed to a warmer jacket, even in the car, although he has two more stages to go before the real winter attire!
Linda – welcome back! Glad you enjoyed a rest, some peace and quiet and autumn colour – and garden centre shopping.
Dibnlib – sorry Benson took you by surprise without your full wet weather gear! Do take care not to slip over on the mud when you go out with him.
A stay-at-home day for us tomorrow, but it includes the solar man’s maintenance visit if it happens this time! J is also getting his Wednesday off this week.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Liz, Lovely to hear from you. Thanks for the advice about the gutter guards. We had considered them, but our builder, who we ask to clean the gutters has advised against them as, besides the leaves, it is the tree dirt and dust, which is washed off the roof into the gutters and blocks the cone traps on top of the drainpipes, which then block, with what ends up like muddy soil. He did show me the buckets of mud he collected and that was the problem a few weeks ago when he cleared a front gutter for us. The guards wouldn't stop that happening. All good fun. LOL
Diane, My daughter didn't have any choice on her time in Chicago. She was just given the dates for when she would be going. LOL. She has to pay all the expenses though. Air fares, hotel etc. She returned home this morning and insists it is much warmer :-)) I haven't spoken to her about the trip yet as she was so tired and said she wasn't sure what time of day it was !!
Dibnlib, I forgot to say that I was so pleased to read that you will be able to accompany your husband down South and that Benson will be able to stay in your preferred kennels. Will you be driving down ?
Margo, I guess you have started clearing those drawers now.. I bet your OH has told you not to do so much :-))
OG, Sorry your lecture was so short but it sounded as if you had a good day out, anyhow. We finally had our flu jabs. The waiting room was so full, some people were outside the door. We went 20 mis earlier than they started the jabs and so were seen to very quickly. I do hope your solar man arrives early.
I am watching Liverpool play Real Madrid. L'pool are being beaten at the moment (1-0 ).
Annette - I was interested to see your double decker train. It wouldn’t suit me – all those steps up & down. On the Indian-Pacific my Friend & I shared a compartment in carriage M. That meant every time we wanted company, we had to sway through L, K, J, I, H, then the lounge, then the dining car. I quickly learnt not to forget anything. LOL
Back on duty yesterday helping Dau2. She has nanny help for only 3 more weeks, no extension. A very unsympathetic social worker called in – her suggestion is to put 3 kids in child care 1 afternoon a week. I don’t see how that helps with daily problems, twins screaming to be fed at same time, nor with J’s reflux problem. Dau ended in tears. I couldn’t tell her how tired and achy I was after a mere 5 hours.
Now I'd better check pantry cupboard & fridge before food shopping expedition. What a fun thing to look forward to!
