NOVEMBER – Winter is setting in. With return to Standard Time the dark evenings are even longer. It will soon be dark by 6:00 p.m. here in southern Ohio. Many of our November days are just all-over grey, from grey skies to gray hills with leafless grey trees and grey atmosphere – just cold, damp and gloomy. Still too early to expect much, if any, snow. But on an occasional sunny day we might enjoy a heavy frost on lingering green leaves. And inside all is warm, colorful and cheery. All month (in my family, anyway) we are planning the Thanksgiving feast. Thanksgiving Day, a day set aside for giving thanks to God for all the blessings in our lives, is a national holiday and a major one for most of us.
Here at the Gabfest, we have the gloom of empty nests. But we also have the cheer of knowing that Millicent is settled in her warm winter home, while Breagha is enjoying his second winter not too far away. Our chat-room fires are kept burning brightly and our new TV/telly screen is always at the ready., so hopefully we can all keep our computers in working order and enjoy a little chit-chat, some music and maybe a bit of streetwalking. Special Events include the possibility of another Music Night with suggested Movie theme and a group streetwalk to some as yet mystery location.
So where is our Gabfest chat-room.? Have you ever wondered? Well of course, it is at some undisclosed cyberspace location in the beautiful Scottish Highlands, not too far from the Loch Garten nest, home of EJ and Odin.
Unknown said:Aren't the birds in he sunset storks?
Hello June,
the picture is wonderful, but I'm sorry:The birds are not storks. When you see a stork fly, he doesn't have this s-shaped curve in his neck, but the neck is straight. They must be herons or egrets, but with this light I can't tell exactly.
And it is great that you "dug out" the picture wtih the snow-men at the Ithaca-feeder. How cute!!!
I'll keep looking out for any plans for the next music night. I already have many ideas, so maybe you'll be sorry if I manage to take part.
This year is a very busy one for me, even busier than usual, so I'm not around here as much as I wish. I'm sorry for that. But in addittion to my work, I do now have a man in my life. This certainly makes life more complicated, but I'm so very, very happy. He lives about 360 kilometres away from me, so we don't see each other often. You can imagine that we talk every day on the phone, although this is complicated as well (both of us have strange times for work, so we have to make plans when to phone each other).
Well, I have to catch up with some more threads now. See you all soon!
Kind regards as always, Bente
The Ontario, Canada bird feeder station is quite active at the moment. cams.allaboutbirds.org/.../FeederWatch_Cam
Look what we missed yesterday: a ruffed grouse! Be back (soon I hope) with a picture.
This action that I captured last night (from their video - not live action) is the same as the clip they have chosen today to open the video.
To see the video use the link in the above post and scroll down. Oh well, just to make it easy here is the link once more. :) http://cams.allaboutbirds.org/channel/38/FeederWatch_Cam/

Wonder if they put xmas deco up this year.Love watching the bird cams. Thank you June for posting the cam on "Gabfest"
Fish, are you listening to Jesse on WOBO now. When it came on to AMERICAN military music, I did call him & said I thought I had tuned in to Scottish music - what happened? Well seems Veteran's Day/Armistice Day is next Tuesday & in honor of that he is playing military today.
I did tell him he is my favorite host and very favorite program bar none, so long as he stays with his proclaimed theme of Scottish music.
He just played "the Band played Waltzing Matilda" a very touching song about non-American military with a lovely Scottish sound. Now Isle of Kintyre - definitely Scottish, so he is mixing some good Scottish in with American.
Hi June
Stars and stripes no way Scottish lololol
Even so, Jesse is coming up with a great program, IMO.
We are having ;lots of fireworks going off right now.
Fish WHY????
