WELCOME, Friends, to our Gabfest Chatroom for our first Special Event for winter, 2014. We have added a large flat-screen television above our fireplace. This is mostly for viewing of osprey, but it will come in handy tonight for our music videos. It may be cold outside, but thanks to a roaring fire in the fireplace it is warm and cosy in here.
Behind the usual furnishings of couch and chairs, comfortable padded folding chairs have been added, so there is plenty of room for any observers from other threads or around the world. At the back of the room a table has been set up for snacks. At present it holds a platter of miniature Maryland Crab Patties with Dill Sauce for dipping, another platter of Blueberry Crisps Pastries and a bowl of steaming spiced cider. Also a combination of watermelon, cantelope and honeydew balls in a hollowed out watermelon shell. There is plenty for everyone, but if you want more variety, feel free to add your favorite drink or snack as you enter.
So come on in, comment so we know you are here. If you are just watching, welcome and we do hope you too will sign in so we know you are with us. Just be sure to let us know you are only watching and do not want a turn. Now during our gathering time, we can fill our plates while we establish our Presentation Order List. Music will start at 7:00 pm (UK time of course)
Ah Bente, good Scottish "Hoedown". Good choice.
I had forgotten that the roller coaster featuring in the video is just up the coast from me, in Great Yarmouth!
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Clare Bailey said:Tartan curtains? Please tell me you're kidding.........

This is one of my favorites that I'd like to share with you:

In the 1950's well-known bandleader Paul Weston and singer wife Jo Stafford operated under pseudonyms Jonathan and Darlene Edwards to perform spoofs on singing acts, initially at Hollywood private parties as entertainment. An impeccable singer, she sings deliberately off-key and her husband accompanies on piano, messing up notes, rhythms, and decoration. The result is a painfully hilarious rendition of a number of songs.
They put out an LP as Jonathan and Darlene Edwards in the 1970's that won a Grammy.
For more fun and info, here are two more related links for later.
This is a skit with Jack Benny:

This is Jo singing straight (as herself, not Darlene) with Ella Fitzgerald in a lovely exchange:
