Weekly Chat, Sunday, March 28 2010

Hi All: I'm a bit early starting this since it's right before midnight your time.  Anyway, on the last page of the previous Weekly Chat, Tiger had some interesting info about what's involved in putting forward Big Ben. I had no idea.  And Cirrus posted a shot of two very noisy creatures (thankfully we can't hear them!).  And Soosin is looking for Karen.   Had a nice day out with daughter; won't be around tomorrow evening your time as I'm taking the train down to Burbank Airport to meet a friend for dinner who's got a stopover there for a few hours en route to her home in Sacramento.  Won't be home 'til around 10:30 p.m. - 6:30 a.m. UK time.

  • Hello everyone and Happy Easter weekend to all, also welcome to new members.

I agree with the idea if making it clearer what each thread (is that what you call it?) is intended for. It will help new members a lot and remind the rest of us, especially people like myself, what we are doing on any given day. By the way, I keep thinking that today is Sunday---- :-))

Well, I hope I have now got an avatar..?   Ah ha, it worked, and now used edit too...

Done the mornings shopping mission etc, now hope to see things happening on the nests! I did catch EJ moving the furniture earlier, but she's not there just now.

Thanks to all for the welcomes, and thanks for all the great links on these threads !

  • TerryM

May have seen you at Bassenthwaite, some time? The views of the nest are much better now that it is on the Dodd Wood side, however it is quite a climb to get up to the top view point, and I do not go right up every time! I find the visitor centre screens are a good substitute, on some days!  Not really as good as seeing the birds flying though.

Tiger, from your sunset times I see we in the north of England have 10 minutes more at each end of the day to those in the south, love those summer evenings. Even better in LG of course and auntie must be streets ahead of us now.

TerryM, sunrise today (at where I am) 6.41am and sunset 8.11pm so it is 13h 30 min daylight today and I am NOT complaining after those dark autumn/winter days :)

  • Morning all. Geez. Good job we're starting a new chat thread tonight - how many pages??  Saw a greeting card the other day "Dogs have owners; cats have staff."  I just did doorperson duty for Lightning while she tried to figure out whether to go out or not; already did maid and butler duties this morning. Will seamstress be far behind....

So where's EJ and - still - no Odin.  You guys are posting such wonderfully clear pix - thanks to all.  Site seems a bit slow to load today; maybe because we're all on it?

Tiger: Thanks for the webcam links. I didn't have anything else planned today anyway.  :-)

Sue C with a space :-)  Love that avatar.  I keep meaning to get myself one - was hoping for an Oriole photo, but they sure are skittish. Also, the feeder we use for them has been leaking sugar water all over the patio (seems to do that when the container is heated by the sun; thing is, the hummingbird feeders don't do it). And where there's sugar water, there's ants. So we're a bit uncertain as to our next "oriole" feeder move.

ChrisyB: Pardon my cluelessness, but assume that's a Robin in your avatar (we don't have them here).

I'll be watching three webcams today: LG and LOTL, at least until it gets dark there, and Trucker cam - he's in the Texas Panhandle and heading toward New Mexico. http://www.bigrigtruckcam.com/ for anyone who's interested; scroll down to see the live cam from his cab.

  • Hi Annette, Yes it is a Robin, as on the Christmas cards!

There is a pair and I was hoping they would use the nesting box I put up this winter, but I haven't seen them go in it at all yet.

  • I am so disappointed !! I have just returned home and there are NO photographs of Odin. I thought that if I was away from the computer, he would definitely turn up.

Fabulous LOTL pictures though. Thank you.
