THE LG OSPREY GABFEST FOR OCTOBER, 2014

   Pictures from an email

OCTOBER - probably my most favorite month.   Weather is usually cool, clear and crisp.  The leaves in their brilliant hues  are making spectacles of themselves against blue skies.  I feel certain that it is just as lovely in Scotland as it is here in southern Ohio.

Millicent and Breagha are seemingly settled in their winter headquarters, while Druee has flown on her merry way, wild and free, unencumbered except for her blue identification ring.  We hope that she too is comfortably settled in her winter home.

Osprey news from here on out will likely be scarce  So any information that anyone has about ANY OSPREY will be doubly appreciated here on the October Gabfest.  Or news of interest of any wildlife, for that matter.

October is the month some of us start our Christmas cakes.  I do a short version which will not be started until December, but this month I will definitely be thinking ahead for decorations.

The October nights have a way of going from cool to COLD, so the bright, crackling fires of the Gabfest Chat Room will be very welcome.  Come on  in, pull up a rocker and set a spell.  We can talk of ospreys past, present and future, Christmas cakes, streetwalks, gardening  or whatever suits our fancy.

  • Some very interesting conversation has been left behind in September.  Maybe I can bring some of it forward soon.

For now I will just acknowledge that today is Wednesday and that that Jesse Andrews has started his WOBO radio program "MUSIC OF SCOTLAND" off with good Scottish music. Hope he continues that trend today. Should have kept my mouth shut.  Now he is playing "DIXIE" Lovely song but"Way down south in the land of cotton" does NOT mean southern Scotland!!

  • Glad y'all like the autumn pictures.  I had three and could not decide one above any other.  So I thought why does it have to be one only?  Why not three???   And so it is.

  • Willow:  June, as a child I spent 7 years in Tanzania where my father had a job setting up irrigation systems and general agricultural teaching there. A truly beautiful country and part of my heart will always remain there!

What a fascinating experience, Willow.  How old were you.  We would love to hear any memories you care to share with us.

  • I wonder if Jesse watched the Ryder Cup?  Today he is featuring music played there:  now "Flower of Scotland"  and earlier "Ode to Joy".

Which brings to mind, the last time we heard from Keith sometime last week, he was headed to the Ryder Cup match.  Hope he didn't get hit in the head with one of those balls and is still stretched out somewhere near the course.  :)

  • FISH: "58 willow you live in the "Garden of Kent" a place called Benenden.    EH half of my text has disappeared What i was saying was that I used to live in Benenden many years ago. great place."

Fish, I am sure you have many interesting tales of the various places you have lived around the world.  Didn't you one tell us that you visited the USA?  Again, as with Willow, we would be interested in hearing any of your memories you care to share with us, now or in future conversations.

I have streetwalking to do: Rochester, NY,; Tanzania; and Benenden.

  • Did Keith not have to go abroad to do with his work???

  • maybe I missed his telling us that.

  • June, have been to Florida & C/A had a d good time in the States, in California did a bus tour round the places were the movie stars live.
