AUGUST - the month for migrations, tracking and empty nests.
The above picture is of the early flights around the nest of ALL the osprey sat tagged at Loch Garten. Looks like a celebration, doesn't it?
On her migration flight, Seasca was just overhead here, east of Aundorach. but I have to swing up into the sky to pick up her blue track. This GE image was dated August, 2011 so landscape appearance should be much he same.
And this is the overhead view that captures Seasca's flight track east of Aundorach.
Checked the nest, which of course is empty. Checked the main blog, nothing new there YET. Today Thurs Aug 28 is the day they are supposed to receive new data, but I will be out for a while now so will have to be patient a bit longer.
There is new data on GE, but I think it is not yet the latest data being expected today. My update is usually far behind.
Well given the news earlier this evening I think the same as Richard - "Sunk without Trace" and that we have lost our first migrating tagged osprey.
The other two starting their journeys - MILLICENT looks fine but a little concerned that LONAIG is a little off course.
POSTED FOR 58 WILLOW.
Whilst we were at Glenfinnan yesterday the following passed us on the viaduct passing each other at Glenfinnan Station.
The first is the 14:40 Fort William to Mallaig.
45407 - The Lancashire Fusilier (Black 5)
The second is the 14:10 Mallaig to Fort William.
62005 a K1 Class.
The Saltire in the foreground is where in In 1745 the Jacobite Rising began when Prince Charles Edward Stuart ("Bonnie Prince Charlie") raised his standard on the shores of Loch Shiel.
Evening, All. Sad news about Seasca, poor girl--she could not know when she carried on flying that the Bay of Biscay was so huge, but she was driven on by her instincts. Wishing better luck for the rest of her family.
Keith, LONAIG??? Sorry but I missed that one.
Kind regards, Ann
GARDENBIRDER - LONAIG (Named after Inchlonaig an Island in Loch Lomond)is the male chick from Aberfoyle nest that was satellite tagged.
He left Aberfoyle 25.8.2014 and so far this is his track.
As I said earlier followers are a little concerned as he is a bit far west.
Keith...no politics please..
Why Oh Why? Another unanswerable question, Why Oh Why did Seasca not stop over in France?? All surely would have been well if she had only roosted for the night while she still had the chance.
Ann, like you, Lonaig is a completely new name to me.
Hi Wendy
