Will EJ return this week? What if another female tries to claim the nest? Will super-Odin return to fish another year? Or will EJ take another mate (she'd better not!!) Will YOU be the lucky blogger to catch the first glimpse of an osprey at LG? Tune in to the Loch Garten LIVE webcam for the first installment of Loch Garten Ospreys - 2010!!
Seriously, lots of interesting chat on the last page or two of the previous week's chatter. Catch up now because you won't have time once the ospreys are back in town! :-)
Hey AQ: That's a good shot of your Noisy Miner (no relation to Nosey Parker?) Saw two Oak Titmouse (mice?) in the garden today - was pulled outside by their very pretty song. Sibley describes them as "drab gray-brown" but I thought the colors were soft, muted, and very pretty.
Cloudy and mild Monday – very light rain just started. So, Annette and Diane, the US healthcare bill went through – I admire this President for taking political risks in domestic policy and pushing what he believes to be right – most seem to wait till their second term when there is nothing to lose in terms of electoral popularity. AQ – sorry you had to iron blouses for the coming week – hope you can soon wear jumpers! Good that pictures seem to be staying. I googled your Noisy Miner – surprised that such a large bird is a honey-eater – but it is omnivorous, so does eat insects and stuff too!
OH has final dentist visit this morning, so making soup for lunch (celery and cashew nut).
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
MORNING, ALL. A bit cloudy here too, with threatening dark clouds. That soup sounds good, OG: I just adore cashew nuts. Thanks too for the link to the Trucker site, I will look in shortly.
Alan: Undoubtedly the best news of the week (so far) about the Rutland Ospreys. We have promised ourselves that we will make a long day out one day this spring & visit Rutland to see the nests. Its so great that all the hard work of the RSPB has paid off in making this a safe place for the osps to breed and return.
Annette & Diane; Shouted "Hooray" this morning when we switched on the News, to see that the Healthcare Reform has been passed. Was interested some weeks ago to see that the argument against this made by some people was that the system didn't work here in UK: Can assure the doubters that although we do moan about various aspects of it, we would be lost without it & I do get cross with people who take it all for granted. Surely one of the main aspects of being a civilised society should be that healthcare be taken care of for All. I know there are concerns about the funding & costs, but hopefully they will get the right people on the job to organise this. Off my soapbox now.
AQ: Great pic of your bird, he looks quite big. Wonder if he will come back regularly.
Doing boring h.work & more of the dreaded ironing today: at least I can watch some of the TV I recorded whilst away, while doing it. Husband has gone to Doctors as he has a cough he can't shift, so hope they can give him something for it.
Morning Lindybird. The RSPB do a lot for ospreys, but not at Rutland Water! Rutland Water is run jointly by Leicestershire & Rutland Wildlife Trust and Anglian Water. The reintroduction project was a venture between these bodies and Roy Dennis under license from Scottish Natural Heritage.
I thoroughly recommend a visit to RW not just for the ospreys but for the incredible variety of wildlife there.
Annette & Diane Glad to hear that the health care bill passed. It has been a long time.
Tiger Signature
Sandy: Thanks for the info on Rutland Water: I'm a newbie as regards the ospreys and so didn't realise that. Got Roy Dennis' book for Christmas but havn't had time to read it yet, so hope to be more clued up about what I say in future. :- )
Great pics as ever on the Palemale Site today, some lovely closeups. Also, it looks sunny at LG today, so it will be welcoming if any ospreys return early!
Good morning Lindybird. Han't thought about having eyebrow tatoood on but at that cost I think I will have to practise if I do lose some of it. Fortunately my eyebrows are not all that noticeable either.
How is the washing going, are you catching up.
So excited by Alan's post of another osprey at Rutland. I phoned Loch of the Lowes on Saturday to see if they had seen the osprey. Hasten to add that I did not claim to have been the first person to see it, as I picked it up from a post by Tiger. Thinking it might jsut be this week that EJ and Odin return. So looking forward to it.
Have a good day.
Margobird
Afternoon Alan lovely photo of the white trees. Just catching up with all the postings so I will say thank you for links and news about the Rutland Osprey. Thought i had better do it now otherwise by the time I get to the end of all the posting I will forget. Getting more and more excited now about EJ and hopefully Odin that they will arrive this week. Just had a look at the the Loch of the Lowes nest and it looks as though nesting material has been added to it.
Good morning original goldfinch and many apologies as it is you who posted the lovely photo of the trees. Must be getting passed it I think as Have just thanked Alan for it - Sorry Alan
Just to prove I can get it right Alan thanks for the snowdrop photo. What delicate little flowers they are. You sound as though you had a very nice day out yesterday. We are members of the National Trust and live quite to one of their houses, Kingston Lacy and it is very pretty there at this time of the year.
