Simply amazing. Scientists in Tasmania are tracking bees with tiny sensors. The next stage is to shrink the sensor to track fruit fly & mosquitoes.
Temp may be cooler but the high humidity makes it feel just as unpleasant. The bushfires have destroyed at least 15 homes, 425,000 hectares, not to mention stock, crops & fencing. Concern that the first stage of the Tour DownUnder may have to be cancelled as the route is through one of the bushfire areas. Many of the fires, some still not under control, are in areas I have visited or plan to visit on photo excursions. News is much worse when one can picture the scene rather than just another anonymous place in the news. I haven't been out in the car since last Mon and driving to church this morn I felt quite strange.
Quick look in, may get back later-
I was enjoying the banter last evening but then got a message from France which distracted me somewhat.
Nothing untoward with my brother I hasten to add. I had decided to send him some stuff from a British butcher in Normandy, things he can't get easily, like back bacon, black pudding, good quality cheddar cheese. I placed the order on the website, received confirmation and delivery date and paid by PayPal.
Heard last night that the shop had closed for good four days before I ordered. They had a good reputation, looks like a personal family problem.
So I checked my bank and PayPal etc and sent an email to the business concerned. I have never tried to get money back from a PayPal client so it will be interesting. It's not a fortune, just over £50 but I feel cross that he didn't contact his web person immediately and get the site taken down. Also, my darling brother was so happy at the thought of having black pudding and bacon!!
Yes, LINDY, I would rather give something away than lose it this way!!
Nice to hear from GEORGE, hope you get your medication sorted soon but it sounds as if you are getting good care.
You are so right about some of the aristocracy!! I often used to think that they just didn't feel appearances mattered, they left all that kind of thing to us lesser mortals--
doggie, you really are our guru on here. Thank you. I did log into PayPal last night but I didn't read the info that you have pinpointed. I was so cross that I inadvertently changed one of my bank settings, didn't realise until I got an email from them:-((
Thank you, DOGGIE
I got an email from paypal saying that I had made a payment to the butcher but when I just checked my PayPal account it is showing no transactions. I will keep checking PayPal and my bank and take things from there?
Again, many thanks for your help, such nice folk on here.
Morning all:
George: Does sound like your docs are keeping a good eye on you. Our (white) cat rolls around on the decomposed granite walkways and gets covered in brick-colored dust and grit. We have a tatty old rag draped over the blinds on the front door (very elegant) and have to catch her before she slips in the door so we can wipe her off, but we never really get it all off. Oh well.
Heather: What a shame about that shop closing, especially since it sounds like they had a loyal following. Glad to see that doggie has sorted you out and put your mind at rest.
OG: It's so nice to be able to make springtime garden plans and to know your greenhouse plants are behaving themselves.
Brenda/Lindybird: I have to get a new driver's license this coming Friday and am wondering what kind of photo I'll be stuck with for the next god-knows-how-many years. I mean, it's not exactly studio lighting in those places, is it? No chance for a more flattering second shot! And I have a horrible feeling that old lady who keeps standing in front of me when I have my photo taken will show up again!! Stay tuned.
All this talk of tatty sweaters and torn clothes has me wondering if my OH doesn't have some aristocratic blood in him! :-))
Had a good night's sleep; no idiots driving into other people's vehicles before dawn. Another dry day here with slight cloud cover, so cooler and will try to do some work in the garden. When OH and I had the place re-landscaped, we planned to extend the brick patio, but the guy doing the work was such a pain we sent him packing without risking more aggro. Now we're rethinking that decision, but have some other folks in mind to do the work.
If anyone has any extra mud, rain, dreich weather, etc., they'd like to get rid of, parcel it up and send it to anyone in California.
Take care!
Chris Chataway has died, aged 82. Brilliant athlete of his time.
George, You must be getting fed up with all your tests and medication changes but they do seem to be taking care of you. It is hard to keep a clean kitchen floor and have a dog, especially in this present weather.
Heather, What a disappointment for your brother. I do hope you have no problems getting your money returned. Have you told your OH ? You are just going to convince him that there should be no more internet payments. LOL
Annette, We did laugh at the old woman standing in front of you just as you have your photograph taken. I must remember that one. Oh dear, more garden work. I hope the new crew prove to be more satisfactory.
We have had a really lazy day today but we did go for a walk in the sunshine.
Margo, I see your OH should be happy again tonight. Hope you have enjoyed the dry and sunny day. Maybe Billie has even ventured outside.
