Good morning, all, and welcome to the new month's thread. I imagine we'll have to wait and see whether Glesni has actually gone - if she has, she can look back on a season where she has every right to feel very proud of herself!
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Monty would look good anytime Clare :)
Up until now I've assumed that a breeding father's migration instinct will be a bit more flexible than a mother's since they are usually the 'last parent standing'. We'll soon see how it works out here.

In 2008 Orange VS left Nethy and Deshar to fend for themselves before they felt ready to leave.
Nethy waited 2 days before leaving while Deshar waited 4.
In 2010 Odin stopped feeding the two younger chicks before they decided it was time to leave.
Green B at Loch of the Lowes had a reputation for leaving the chicks.

I don't know anything about Green B - how recent was he?

Green B was Lady's mate up to 2009. There is some dispute as to when he became the male at Loch of the Lowes.
Just back after W/end away, and catching up, had tweets to say Glesni had left, made me feel sad, I managed to get a distant view of her and her chicks on the ground branch together before I went, I wish her a safe journey and stay wherever she goes, and look forward to hers and Monty's safe return next spring, she's had a good first season with Monty and been a brilliant new mum. We will be away when the rest of them are due to go, and just want to wish them ALL well, and remain safe!!

Tiger, if you are there, what is the difference in hatching time between the Dyfi chicks & the Threave chicks from last year?

It is a very hard question to answer as the data for Threave is no so precise as that for Dyfi. It would seem likely that the Threave chicks from last years were later than these.
