Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey), Sunday 1 September 2013

HAPPY NEW WEEK AND NEW MONTH!

Last week's Weekly Chat thread is HERE. The code for this week's Weekly Chat thread is 010913 (in case you ever want to find it from the search box).

  • Morning all: Quick look in before I zoom out to do a bit of garden tidying up before the temp goes up.

Lindybird/Clare: I'm all for comfortable shoes; wore heels, wedges at some point in another life, but now I live in sandals or flats. I love lace ups and velcro; the trouble is finding casual shoes that don't look clunky, what I call "old lady shoes."  :-))    My mother tried to get me to wear men's shoes (for length; I've got skinny feet) at one point and I nearly died of embarrassment.

Clare: Current temps are going on 20 degrees above normal for the coast; moreover, we've had cooler than normal temps all summer, so this has come as a bit of a shock - with humidity too! (Whine, whine.)  :-)

Mulberry:  When I was googling the site, I noticed several links to crash sites of WWII planes. Besides that, if you click the ExUrb link on that site, it takes you to all kinds of abandoned buildings/churches with some great photos - a bit sad and curious. Woodland Cemetary (I'm a compulsive googler!) is just west of Sacramento in the Central Valley - agricultural land, very hot and dry.  I often think about these kids that come from small rural communities and who end up fighting wars a world away.....but don't get me started on that!   Interesting about how Snake Pass/Inn got their names.

Margo: Hope the chemo is kinder this time round and that Billie is doing her bit in the caretaking department.

    patily: Nice to see you.

    Back later; take care all.

  • CLARE/LINDY/ANNETTE    I have a passion fo footwear in many different colours. A friend went into what I call my wardrobe and shoe room and couldn't believe the number I have on racks. I didn't admit to having about a dozen pairs in my wardrobe!!!! I do agree CLARE that companies make footwear for people with matchstick legs and I do find getting boots a problem.

We went to the 2 local rehoming places today but there wasn't anything suitable unfortunately. Felt bad leaving them all behind but they did say they had a rapid turnover and the dogs do not stay too long. It is amazing what dogs get put into these places. They have had a Great Dane (8 months old) and a Japanese Akita aswell. Both way to big for us.

  • I was keeping quiet :-)) I have shoes with various heel sizes, wedges, flats, all in various colours. Today I have been wearing wedged sandals. I do love shoes.

  • dibnlib: Good to hear you and OH are going to offer a wonderful home to some very lucky dog.  Hope the right one shows up soon.

  • Good to see you DIBNLIB-I can understand the need to fill the big hole in your life and looking for a rescue dog seems to me to be such a lovely thing to do.Have been lurking all week, a few family concerns but nothing too drastic, plus dealing with S next door's worries which are trying my patience but nevertheless are very important to her.One day soon I will need to have a rant on here and get a group hug!!! MARGO- it's great to hear that you are not suffering too much so far, we are all keeping fingers and toes crossed. OG - missing your posts, do hope that you are feeling a bit better, how are the eyes? Kindest regards to EVERYONE.
  • DIBNLIB I am so sorry.  I can't imagine. I shall think of him next time we get to Loch an Eileen.

  • Dibnlib, Good for you, looking to give a dog a home. I hope you find one that you want. Dogs have a habit of also choosing the people they want to live with. Best wishes to you both. It is going to be a very lucky dog.

  • Heather, It does sound as if it is time you had a really good rant. {Hugs} to you in advance.

  • Good evening, all.  It's been an absolute scorcher in sunny Felixstowe today - more like July than September!  We had a nice trip to the reserve at Trimley Marshes, though we were gutted when we learned that the osprey had flown over....yesterday.

Dibnlib, how fantastic you're looking for a new friend in the rescue centres - I could hardly think of anything more worthwhile.  Our thoughts are still with you.

Margo, hope the chemo continues treating you more gently - you've earned it!

Annette - hope it cools down for you soon.  California is seriously uncomfortable when it's too hot.

Hello to everyone else - I have read all the posts and it's nice to see a good number of people around!

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
