Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey), Sunday 1 September 2013

HAPPY NEW WEEK AND NEW MONTH!

Last week's Weekly Chat thread is HERE. The code for this week's Weekly Chat thread is 010913 (in case you ever want to find it from the search box).

  • I also made it back to Felixstowe Ferry for a short while this morning:

    No link photo this time!

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Alan: I've just seen this Facebook page, and I think that you would like it very much. Images of Wild Nature is the Facebook page of National Geographic contributing photographer Andrew Parkinson, who has taken a strong stand on the badger cull.

Specifically, I thought his post of August 28 was a very concise and compelling summary of the cull issue.

Also, his page is interesting because he's just a darned good photographer.

  • Hi folks, just dropping in.

Thanks AQ for your pics on your trip. Also happy Fathers D

Annette - Happy Labour Day and glad you were able to see dau.

Weather hear is a bit cooler and quite pleasant even if it is a little cloudy.

Hi Diane, just seen your post too.

Hope everyone is keeping reasonably well and best wishes to those who are suffering in any way at present.

  • Evening all: Cooler this evening, but they're threatening us with 90F later this week and more humidity. Ugh.  Went off to have my cheek swapped at a Marrow Donor Registry for a local woman but found out I was TOO OLD!! The cut-off age was 44 and since I just turned - ahem - 45, I couldn't participate. Then I drove along Cabrillo, thinking I'd take a look at what was on offer at the weekly Arts & Crafts Show/Sale, but not a parking spot within blocks so gave up on that too and came home to sort out some files.

Heather: Good of your OH to send the salmon on their way. Just Googled "priest" and see that there's a link to the last rites - charming. Your day sounds very relaxing.

Clare: Nice shots of the ferry :-) Not sure we have rooks here, or if we do and I'm just clueless. Maybe we lump them all together under "crows."

    Lynette: Hope you're doing okay.

Diane: Some lovely badger shots on that site (among other critters).

AQ: Did you celebrate Father's Day with the family?

Going to watch second installment of "Silk" tonight (after a two-parter on Churchill).

Have a good Monday all and Big Hallo to Margo!!

  • Good morning, all!  Annette, you're not remotely old.......I'll be 45 in November and I'm still waiting for the 'mature attitude' to kick in.

I don't know if there are rooks in the US - but if you see a bird that's quite like a crow but with a silvery beak and a bald patch on its face then you do have them.

  • I spotted these in the main street of Moonta. Cock a doodle do

    Moo and Ee aw

    I can't identify this one!!!

    Frog

    Butterfly

    Dragonfly & goats

  • They're great, Aquilareen!  I love the colours, especially on the dragonfly.

  • Clare, the butterfly & dragonfly changed colours as I moved. I'm not up to videos.

  • An absolutely beautiful bird has made a welcome reappearance in the neighbourhood:

    Isn't she gorgeous?

  • Hi, all. Really busy here, and I'll catch up soon.

    Annette: Happy Labor Day!
