Weekly Chat, Sunday, March 14

Hi all: Lots of news about ospreys and other stuff plus photos (if you're lucky!)  on the previous pages.

  • Another sighting just in:

    15/03 15:10  LINCOLNSHIRE : Osprey, Saltfleetby NNR  [S]
one over Theddlethorpe All Saints over Long Eau TF453886 (14:30)

  • Thanks Alan for doing the osprey watch.  I am full of anticipation now that it won't be long before we will look in and see ospreys at LG.

  • Morning all: Well, Phoebe just left and now the mark is on the right-hand egg, so I'm thinking it's a bit of dirt that gets transferred from one to the other when P comes and goes.  Still, it's supposed to be any day now!

AQ:  Good that the engagement party went well. Do they have "showers" in Oz? Here, they throw wedding showers before the wedding where everyone brings gifts; then another "baby shower" before the obvious, where they do the same. They didn't have them in the UK when I was growing up.  I'm not a big "shower" fan, being basically not into organized games and lots of shrieking (or maybe I've just been to some peculiar showers).  More likely I'm just a grouch.   More parallel history, sort of; we actually have a Russian fort (built by the Russians during their time in the Northwest) two thirds of the way up the California coast at Fort Ross. It was the southernmost Russian settlement in their exploration of the North American continent. A fascinating "what if" segment of history, albeit before California became a state.... The land around it was eventually sold to John Sutter, who went on to become the first person to discover gold in California.

OG: Ironing? What ironing? All items nicely pressed and safely hung in closets!  Watched HBO's (HBO is a cable station here) new WWII miniseries, The Pacific, which has been very well reviewed.

Thanks Alan for all the osprey news updates - a picnic in the park (even in a car) sounds promising! And per Gary's post: Whatever happened to BigRab?  And Hi to Auntie and Margobird!

  • Alan this is getting to be a full time occcupation for you but I and others are truly grateful that you keep us in the link with so many developments.

  • Hello Annette I am hoping BigRab will turn up again when the ospreys have landed.  Have spent many happy hours watching his videos from last season and hopefully we will have some of this season.  Ospreys zooming in now to the UK so it can't be long before we see them at LG.  Have a good day.

  • Thanks Alan. Great pictures

Annette, funny you should mention BigRab, he popped up on the FB side about a week ago!! We were speculating/hoping he would be back and he appeared. He doesn't post much, but we are putting the pressure on to know he is our top cinematographer!!!!  lol

  • Just caught this white tailed eagle on the nest in Estonia:

  • Alan, I can see your three bobbleheads! ...but not the eagle ;((

There are over 4000 watching Phoebe now but she's sitting on the nest so I can't see if anything has hatched. I think they are having trouble with the number of visitors, I can't see the chat because it says I am banned. I haven't done anything, honest! It did that last night, but then appeared.

Ah, she's off the nest now, still two eggs.

    I can see eagle now!

  •  OG  loved "the lady of Shalott" it was one of the works I used for my Higher English exam. Another favourite is "The Mountain Lion" by D H Lawrence. Sad but beautifully descriptive.
