Weekly Chat, Sunday, March 14

Hi all: Lots of news about ospreys and other stuff plus photos (if you're lucky!)  on the previous pages.

  • Afternoon all from TI,

Just got back to discover that one of the Rutland ospreys has returned. 03(97). We went to Fineshade wood this morning and sat in the hide for about an hour. Nothing unusual about just a male Greater Spotted Woodpecker. We then had lunch in the Top Lodge Cafe and watched the preparations for the Woodfuel Fair at the weekend:

On the way out of the car park saw a lovely red kite low over a field next the main road.

Weather was nice and sunny this morning but now clouding over.

  • Thanks Alan can't be long before EJ and Odin (hopefully) are back with us.  Glad you had such a nice morning.

  • Maureen! What have you done to Hilary??? How nice to see you, glad you’re feeling well enough to join us.

Diane, I am enjoying dropping in on Truck cam dude, I would get bored driving along those vast distances with not much change in the scenery. Here the scenery can change every ten miles. I was sitting here watching him yesterday while practising my scales.

AQ, thanks for all the history, will have to read it all again now you’re done. I didn’t know there were deep blue/red opals, I thought they were all wimpy pale.  My sister has my mum’s (wimpy) opal engagement ring.

OG, I think you’re getting carried away in the garden, slow down!  Supervise OH doing it. We had rain yesterday too, and sunny-but-windy today.

Hope is trying to get out from under Lily’s arm, and making a great deal of noise about it.

  • Morning all: Thick fog here - well, sorta thick, so cool down here but in mid-70s over the hill at daughter's home.

Diane; Short hair is easy to care for. I'm tall, so feel like a beanpole with very short hair but admire it on others.  Thanks for info on owls' nest.

AQ: My sister's opal is an especially beautiful wimpy one. I like all opals. I'm always looking at them at a local second-hand jeweler's store and thinking...should I? But anymore I wear so little jewelry in the course of a day/month/year.

OG: I like rainy, overcast, gray weather here since it gives me a chance to stay indoors and do all indoor stuff, but it's comparatively rare.  Indeed, Oro will hear my car pull up and get all excited, though we are going out for brunch and maybe shop a bit, so he'll have to wait for his walk.

Margobird: I've had little cancer thingies frozen off and that's no fun, but not as bad as needles! I had a shot in my foot once and I imagine the forehead is just as difficult - no fat to work with!   Oh no, please don't get erased (rubbed out) - we wouldn't know what to do! :-)   Lindybird has a good idea re botox - maybe they can include some of that in your shot?  :-)

Heron: Maybe we all need webcams and Skype, but then we'd all be chatting at the same time about haircuts, bumps on foreheads, and displaying various piles of ironing, etc..  On second thoughts, maybe not....

Lindybird: Hope the red wine comes out - all those berry and grape stains are such a pain once they "sit." We're all waiting here for the vote on Health Care Reform on Sunday........   Oh, and just be grateful you don't have years of campaigning before an election, which is what we have.  It's awful and immoral to spend the money they spend but - there! - soapbox back in closet!

Alan: A Rutland osprey back already? Far out! (Thanks for the link to the Woodfuel Fair - I was going to Google it)

TerryM: Watch for Truck cam dude's next route - if he heads southwest, there should be some beautiful stretches.  I've always wanted to ride cross country so the cam is a real treat for me.  It'll be nicer when spring hits the northern tier states...

Off to get my SIbley's Field Guide to try to ID large brown bird sitting on telephone wire over neighbor's house. Not a hawk; looks young.... Hmmmm. Back later.  Take care all and thanks for posts, links, pix!

  • Hi Annette the needle they put in is to numb the forehead and that is the worst part for me especially now I know what happens as I keep getting these things on my forehead.  I will ask about the Botox lol.  Have to say they really make a good job of the stitching.  I have had 6 in total removed from my forehead and you can hardly see any scarring.  Just worried this time that as it is just above my eyebrow they might have to cut below to ensure they have got it all and then of course the eyebrow will not grow again.  Will have to practice drawing eyebrows.  Have a good day.

  • Just been on the Derby peregrines webcam and got this close up screenshot on the left hand camera:

  • Busy day out in the garden, pruning weeding and fence painting. Sunny but what a wind, enough to almost blow you off your feet.

I too love opals (it is my birthstone )and on my 18th a Great Aunt sent me 2 of her opal rings to choose from and the other one for Mum. The one I chose is a beaut, quite a rich cream with vibrant colours through it and the 3 opals are separated by diamonds. She died some years ago and I have 3 more of her lovely rings, funnily enough I have never been able to find the opal ring Mum got all those years ago. I wonder what she has done with it!!!!!

I too have short hair and have had for a long time. It suits my lifestyle of swimming and being outdoors a lot. Some years ago I decided to grow it a little and at the same time I changed the colour. Big mistake to try the 2 things at once and so a few months later it was back to a short crop with blonde highlights.

My ironong habits are the opposite from most of you. The minute the clothes are dry I must iron them or it drives me nuts. OH also jokes that I strip the bed with him still in it and would put the daily paper in the recycling bin before he has finished it!!!!

Once had a jab on the tip of my ring finger. The nurse practically had to hold me down. All those nerves in your fingertips!!!!!!

  • Good evening everyone ... first chance today to read and post. Its been a beautful, sunny day, so have been 'out & about' and working in the garden ... that was after the visit to the GP for yet another blood pressure check :(( Fortunately it was down a bit this time but still some way to go.

Have been enjoying all the chat, pics, links ... and many thanks to AQ for all the very interesting history.

Diane - I too have been folowing the Barn Owl Trust nestbox and barncam ... I have them open on my screen all the time when I am on the computer! I checked their diary for last season and the first egg was laid on 7th of April ... their behaviour certainly suggests all is well this year. The truck cam is great too!

Maureen - great to see you back here, and hope you keep well

    Take care all

  • HELLO LINDYBIRD..Glad you had a good holiday and well planned as you are back in time for the osps return. Buzz will have missed you. Was he in kennels or do you have friends or relatives to look after him?

You will have seen we have been having problems with the photos. Such a shame as we are told there is going to be a photo of something and all there is, is a square with a x inside. Hope it gets sorted before we all go nuts

  • meant to say that I feel so sorry for Hope struggling to stand. Do you think we should advise her to stay off the booze???? Seriously though, isn't she just soooooo huggable, best from the comfort  of  a laptop though as Mum might not be too happy
