Weekly Chat, Sunday, March 14

Hi all: Lots of news about ospreys and other stuff plus photos (if you're lucky!)  on the previous pages.

  • Aack: Can't stop but whizzing through the posts. Tiger/TerryM: Thanks for info re LG cam; must investigate further. Gee. Trees moving? There's a clue!  Lindybird: Welcome back - where did you go on vacation?  Are you tanned?  Diane: I've got the Trucker cam up most of the time - one way to see the country! - not sure where I'll fit all these webcams on my desktop and do other stuff too. Caerann: Hi!  George: Lemon and ginger crumble cake?  Yum-yum.

Gotta rush again.  Take care all.

  • Did laugh at the above post from Annette.  You can almost feel the hurry she's in!

We went to the Canary Islands, a favourite place of ours; and yes, I'm afraid it was mostly very sunny indeed, and Yes, I have a tan, which Friend said this morning is making her feel quite ill as she has a pale complexion at the best of times, but she is very pale at present as its been a long winter here.  She always asks me about my experiences on the plane journey, as I'm one of those who really needs a baby's bib to eat on those little fold down tables - I have made a mess of my clothes endless times, & have even been known to carry a spare T shirt in my hand luggage, in case.  However, I told her today that I had a humdinger of a tale this time:  coming home, I was wearing some pale beige trousers, carefully kept in the cupboard for 3 weeks so that I could go home in something respectably clean & pressed, with a blue T shirt which had only been worn once.  The man next to me on my left ordered red wine.....  after about an hour, I felt dampness on my feet, & looked down:   Yes, he had!!!   There was a trail of red drips on my trousers ending in a puddle on my feet.  He did apologise, but the damage was done.  I looked across at Husband, on the other side of the aisle.  Then, only 20  minutes later, the flight attendants decided to pass down the cabin the plastic bags full of 'waste', that is, empty beer cans etc., and Yes, they did!  - They dripped beer all down my right sleeve!!  I said to Friend, I ended up in the luggage claim looking like a wino and smelling like a public house.

  • Heron:    Yes, not only are there more clothes in the wash than were in the cases, but by the time they reach the ironing basket they seem to have multiplied yet again.

Alan:   I see reading back that Hamish has been given an All Clear since his bit of a problem, so Hurray! Thanks for the links to various webcams, yet again, you are a star.

  • George – you are so kind, I do appreciate your recce at Vane Farm for me – I think we shall go there and look out from the café.   Lemon and ginger crumble cake sounds like something my OH will enjoy!  I shall mention your Son to ours, and maybe their paths will cross.  Our Son is in youthwork and trying, among other activities, to increase the self-esteem of young people to help them when the time comes to seek employment.

I am posting this on your page, but in case you don’t look there, I hope other people will excuse it on the Chat page, because I want to make sure you know how grateful I am.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Good morning (Friday again?) from a humid Adelaide, 20 C & 89% humidity at 7.30 am <sigh>

Diane - At last I have caught the truckcam. (Usually it is night over there when I log on.) He must wonder why the sudden increase in his viewers. LOL. I must say I find it looks strange to be driving on the wrong side of the road !!!!!

Lindybird - Welcome back. I can just see you looking bedraggled and grubby in baggage claim. Next time wear a plastic raincoat . . .

TerryM - I shall check out the windfarms. I know there was some concern at them being planned for the Fleurieu Peninsula, a popular tourist spot, south of Adelaide.

Tiger - Love the cartoon. I didn’t see it the first time.

  • Sorry - edited - gremlins again

  • Hi Tiger

Haven't been on PC for a while and just trying to catch up on messages. I think it will take too long so I will just start from here.

Your pic.  [Awwwww.....see] proves that love is in the air and Spring is round the corner!!!!!!

I have also noted we have 6days...three hours for the return of 'our' EJ and hopefully Odin. Can hardly wait!!!!!!

  • Continuing SA history . . . The State emblem is the Australian Piping Shrike or white-backed magpie (Gymnorhina hypoleuca). The state colours are Red, [dark] Blue & Gold. Apparently they were chosen in 1982 from the colours of the first SA (Aussie Rules) football team in the national league. The state flower is Sturt’s Desert Pea (Swainsona Formosa). The state faunal emblem is the Hairy-Nosed or Plains Wombat (Lasiorhinus latifrons). The state gemstone is the Opal. The marine emblem is the Leafy Seadragon (Phycodurus eques). Pics and info on these at www.premcab.sa.gov.au/emblems .

Thank you all very much for your kind comments about the history. I didn’t intend to takeover the bird chatter. It just started as a brief throwaway line and grew and grew. I have been surprised at how little and how much I know about our history but I have enjoyed seeking to fill the gaps. By now the history has reached a time well within my parents’ lifetime. I am too close to this history, or perhaps there are just too many topics. Soon the ospreys will be back, so it is time to draw this saga to a close. If anyone is interested in more detailed accounts of a few topics, check the articles on www.ach.familyhistorysa.info .

  • Hi everybody...I am back on line again. Haven't been too well but am feeling better now. Hope you are all well .    Too many posts to read so will just start here.

    Be in touch soon

  • Great to see you back Maureen at this exciting time.
