Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey), Sunday 25 August 2013

HAPPY NEW WEEK!!!

Here's a link to last week's Weekly Chat thread. The code for this week's Weekly Chat is WC250813 (in case you ever want to search for it from the search box).

I was away most of last week, and I think it's too late for me to get caught up on replies. I have read all of your news and have loved all the photos!

I enjoyed the report and pics from AQ's most recent trip (yay, ducks! And loved that pelican, also the big trees). Wonderful photos from Mulberry and NiteOwl (lilies are one of my very, very favorite flowers; yours are super lovely!). Beautiful dragonfly from Alicat.

I really loved the very majestic photos from Lindy -- ducks and deer! Woo hoo! That's an especially beautiful species of deer. Beautiful hibiscus from Alan. Love your increasingly subversive signatures, Alan. LOL! Glad that Mulberry saw an osprey! Happy belated birthday to Jess.

Glad that Cerist at Dyfi has been found! Nice to see Mike posting here. Brenda: Are you glad or relieved to say good-bye to the puppy? LOL

OG: Hope your sparrow hawk was okay after the window strike! Thanks for posting the excellent photos of handsome Diesel, handsome George, and your own beautiful self!

Nice to see Lynette. I hope you have a grand holiday in Austria.

I hope that Limpy is feeling better!

I'm so very glad that Margo has had good results from the chemo. Sending good energy to you, Margo.

Everyone have a great week! It's Indian Summer here and the temperatures this week will be 90 - 100 F (32.2 - 37.7 C) with very high humidity. Yuck.

  • How fantastic to read a post from you MAEGO  Marvellous that you are start to feel a little better in spite of the horrible treatment I wish you all the best with the next bout and sincerely hope you can be treated in your own home. I hope too that you continue to improve and that soon you will be feeling stronger. All the very best to you.

  • Wonderful to hear from the sweet Margo. I hope and pray that further treatments go well as they seem to be working! Thanks so much for the tremendous effort it must have taken to write that post.

  • I have been busy but see that we have had an Extra Special Visitor - dear Margo.

  • (Took that photo in our garden only a few days ago).  How lovely to hear from you, Margo, and as you know, all our Good Wishes are with you. It may seem strange to have others do things for you, but its wonderful that you can get the help you need, and we are all thinking of you. Great to hear that they are pleased with the results of your treatment.  Soon you will really be on the road to recovery and then you can get your strength back again.

Nice to hear from you, bjane:  Hope all goes well in your part of the world.

George:  Bad luck with the w. machine giving out, as Alan says, never a good time for that.  At least you were able to deal with the load at your sis- in- laws and get it on the line.  Hope the delivery of the new one is without any problems, and that you can soon see your smalls and sheets whizzing around!!

Had a successful visit to B & Q, and got the cream paint for the garden bench:  my OH has just finished giving it its final coat after treating the rust and giving it an undercoat the other day.  Picked up a small houseplant (cyclamen) at the same time, in the shop, and its now looking cheerful on the windowsill.  (its the small things in life that cheer us ;-))  )

  • back later with more pics - he has just put a mug of tea in the garden for me.....

  • Problems posting earlier and when I tried yet again I found I had been signed out.    Better luck this time I hope.

MARGO  Good to hear from you. Keep up the progress.

LINDY I agree with Clare, publish and be d*****

Dillon had his MOT early Aug and all was tickety boo. Unfortunately since then his cough has worsened and he is giving very occassional painful yelps. Vet yesterday thought he may have a problem tooth, That doesn't explain the cough so he is back tomorrow for x rays and poss tooth extract. Vet says the cough may be due to a heart problem which apparently the breed is prone to. Cross fingers and toes for him please.

In Scotland a sandwich is known as a "piece"   ie a "jammy piece"  jam sandwich.    On one occassion someone was talking about taking a piece with them and OH nodded wisely. Out of hearing he turned to me "What did they mean, piece of what???" I had to LOL.

  • More pictures of Little Moreton Hall.....

The most interesting room was the Long Gallery, which is a room built over several  other downstairs rooms, and its purpose was explained to us as being somewhere that the ladies could promenade and keep fit during the bad winter weather!!  It was certainly very large, but oh!! the most up-and-down switchback floor you never saw before in your life!!!

      - sorry its a bit out of focus, but I must have moved.  The man standing there has just put his coat over his shoulder, its not a child, by the way!!

The other end of the room....

The two interesting plasterwork panels at the top of each end of the room....

"The Wheel of Fortune, whose Rule is Ignorance..."

"The Spear of Destiny, Whose Ruler is Knowledge....."

--- The beautiful roof space and panelling in this room.  There were windows all around to let in plenty of light. The wooden panels and oak flooring were just wonderfully, well, OLD.

EDIT  -  Notice that the roof beams and plaster are more the right colour as they are the original which have not been treated the same as the beams on the outside of the house, giving it its black & white appearance.  (this is very common in Cheshire & Lancashire).

  • Missed you coming on , dibnlib.  Have all my fingers crossed for the lovely Dillon.

Never heard of a sandwich being a "piece" - you learn something every day.

  • Missing EJ

A last rustle of those strong feathers, and you were gone.....
Now, there is only the sad wind sighing in the trees
To join with our sighs of regret, that you are no longer here
    For our enjoyment.

As you fly ever southward, determined in your journey
You will be unaware that below and behind you,
Are many human souls wishing you well, and
    Thinking already of Springtime, when
Your return will be marked by celebration!

God Speed, dear and beautiful EJ -
May the wild winds lift you up, and the fish you seek
    Be plentiful.
Rest, and once more return to friendly Scottish shores.

  • LINDY   tears to the eyes.   thank you.
