Morning all!

  • LYNETTE   Happy Anniversary and do hope you enjoyed a wonderful meal.

MULBERRY   Glad you woke up in time to see that.

  • Mulberry, you lucky devil!  Can I come and doze in your garden as well?

  • Wow, Mulberry!!!!    If it were me, I would not dare shut my eyes when in the garden, ever again, in case I missed the next one!!

How wonderful for you, and so great that you were able to ID it and thus be thrilled at what you saw.

  • Glad everyone has enjoyed the D.Massey pictures.   We certainly enjoyed ourselves that day, and the weather was perfect, too.  More pictures later, to finish the story.

We 've just had the news for the North West, and the tale of the dolphin found near Chester is hopefully complete, as they caught the animal and put it into a rubber lifeboat, then took it out to sea to release and hope that she finds her pod (family) again.  It was amusing in that lots of bystanders had decided to call it Dave, then when they caught it, they found it was a female!!!  I just hope that she doesn't return as they sometimes do when they are lost like that.

EDIT:  I had to sign in again today, as someone said a while ago, it seems that you have to sign in every time that a new Blog is written....

  • Thanks for the update on 'Dave' Linda. I tried to ring my sister to get the news but she seems to have been out all day.

Mulberry, What a lovely sight to wake up to. You must have thought you were still dreaming.

Clare – thanks for the update. I am sure Limpy will get more rest at home than he would in hospital! It sounds as if there is to be thorough follow-up, but why couldn’t they refer him direct, rather than through the GP?

Because of politics and money.  I asked the question this afternoon when I saw a GP - that was his response.

  • Hospitals are not allowed to refer you either within the hospital or to an appropriate dept in another hospital Supposed to give more patient choice!!!!!!!

  • There isn't a lot of choice around here, Patily - the next closest hospital is Colchester General, and having temped there I would absolutely never choose to go there.  The admin is beyond appalling.  I do wonder whether it might be worth Limpy trying out Papworth, though.

  • Day trip report: It was pouring with rain as we waited for the bus. Up the SE Freeway, through fog, over the Adelaide Hills, rain eased on the other side. This snapped through the bus window. Everything very green as we've had so much rain this winter. Come summer it will be dry, brown or yellow and bushfire prone.

First stop Reedy Creek near Mannum. A peaceful creek flowing towards the River Murray.

A busy spot this day as there was a local walkathon in progress. At this point I went no further as I could see steepish path ahead. The fit and/or stalwart continued on to the Mannum Waterfall which only flows after heavy rain. It hadn't and it wasn't!

Into Mannum, once one of the ports on the River Murray when paddle steamers took supplies up to and brought back wool from outback stations (large farms) on the Rivers Murray & Darling. The coming of railways changed that. Now Mannum is a busy spot for houseboats for hire. The Paddle Steamer Marion, built 1897, was one of the bigger river steamers. Her transportation days ended 1952, sold, she became a floating boarding house. Purchased by the National Trust 1963, languished in museum until restored 1989 as a working vessel. She occasionally does river trips with paying passengers.

The gum trees around the museum were cluttered with screeching flapping fussing corellas.

    Corella

Flood level markers are popular along the Murray. This beside an old river red gum. I find it hard to image as much water as there was in the 1956 flood (line at top of post). In Mannum men had to row their boats to the pubs which were serving from bars on the first floor. The flood water broke the levee bank on 24 August and had not fully receded until Christmas. The 1956 River Murray flood is considered to be the greatest natural catastrophe in South Australia's history and is the largest flood ever recorded in the state. The ferry was out of operation for over six months. Children were ferried across the river in a boat to get to school with the bus kept on the opposite side of the river.

    to be continued

  • Lovely, Aquilareen - I look forward to the next instalment!  The corellas are gorgeous.
