Morning all!

  • Actually did lots of small tidying jobs this morning with men out the way! Have just put gingerbread in the oven this afternoon, so giving myself a sit-down.

Mulberry – more lovely photos! The two (or three!) of you fitted a lot into a few days!

Linda – Diesel had been clipped the previous week, so he was looking his best for photos! No water progress as man we are waiting for has failed to turn up. I predict neighbours will back up again in about three days!

Alan – difficult to grasp that the juveniles are already leaving us!

Clare – thanks for the update. I am sure Limpy will get more rest at home than he would in hospital! It sounds as if there is to be thorough follow-up, but why couldn’t they refer him direct, rather than through the GP?

NiteOwl – Sparrow hawk rested a short time on the garden trellis, and then flew away. It was good to see him sit still – better opportunity for ID! Lovely lilies – I thought mine were late, but they are flowering at the same time as yours, so I feel better about them!

Going to check oven and washing machine; then may do a bit of family tree – ought to answer questions cousin asked in April!  BTW, have just confirmed that another cousin lives in fracking Balcombe, which explains why the name was familiar!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • NiteOwl, just beautiful!  Thank you.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • I've finally posted some of my Titchwell photos (phew!) from July 24th.  Here they are:

I wondered where they were Clare. The thing is did you take Limpy for lunch or tea at Briarfields just along the road?.

  • I went by myself, Mike - Limpy took our teenager shopping (he's braver than me!).

  • You had the best deal Clare. It's a great place with Briarfields and In Focus just along the road what more could you as for!?

  • Are you from North Norfolk, Mike?  It's a particularly lovely part of the world.

  • No I'm a Sussex man but have spent many happy hours there and remember Briarfields being converted from farm buildings.I also remember In Focus buying the cottage opposite as prior to that they used to have 'Field Days' over a weekend at Briarfields. Great days particularly watching the Marsh Harriers and Barn Owls from the bedrooms. In the evenings it was quite common,in the middle of dinner, for a shout to go up when 'Barnie' appeared much to the amazement of the non birders as window vantage points were sought or people nipped out to the terrace with their 'bins'. They even had a scope in the Bar for general use. Happy Days.

  • Happy days, indeed, Mike.  Barn owls are a magical sight.
