Morning all!
It's an empty nest at Dyfi!!!
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Is that Monty on the perch?.
Birdies LG DU update.
Empty nest at Dyfi? Could this be enough to get NiteOwl out of her pit, I ask?
Jess is 6 today!

Another sunny tuesday morning spent at Rutland Water. Birdfair crowds have gone so back to normal. Jvenile female osprey 2J has left on migration but the 2 adults and other 2 juveniles are still around. The swans with the 3 cygnets paid a visit to the bay. The GCG is still on eggs so all going well there. Also saw a whinchat for the first time ever today. Here are some pics from this morning:

Not a bad day here, but I think most of Scotland will need to “batten down the hatches” tonight and tomorrow! With J back at work, things are returning to normal, and apart from baking cornbread this morning I am having a quiet day.
Lynette – I believe you reappeared while I was recently away. Must be strange to have dentures where you had gaps – gaps come gradually, but I imagine the suddenness of dentures come as a bit of a shock. I have always said I shall never tolerate false teeth, so I am full of admiration. You are right about how fast the season has flown, and now so many of the female Ospreys have also flown! Pleased your coach holiday to Austria is going ahead; when is it?
Linda – I will put some pictures in my next post, so you can see the ones with George and Diesel! I have caught sight of some good ones from you again. We have a lot of Butterflies this summer, and many Bumble Bees of various kinds. All apparently enjoying the Dahlias. I hope the dentist signed you off after fixing the chipped tooth. OH has just been for a filling.
NiteOwl – we both think the Falkirk Wheel is a wonderful piece of engineering. I did book a ride for OH (you had to book in the early days when it first opened) but we had to sort out a family problem, so he never did get his ride, although we have been there a few times.
Clare – we first heard of the Falkirk Wheel whilst visiting the Anderton Boat Lift in Cheshire. They had publicity for it, although it was still under construction, so we had to watch out for completion. I believe it is still unique.
Mike – thanks for the advice, but ownership and responsibility are different here in Scotland. For one thing, we only have one water company, which is Scottish Water. Also, this is rather complicated because next door’s blockage occurs where the pipe has been damaged and wrongly repaired under our driveway, and we have to ascertain whether it was done by their wall-builder or our drive-layer, then someone’s insurance will be responsible. We know our builder has insurance, but not sure about the neighbour or their builder! It is all further complicated because the neighbours are very old and panicky, and their son actually owns their home!
Mulberry – I can’t help noticing that you keep changing your sporting allegiance – and have now even changed from Football to Shinty! Give Jess a birthday hug from me!
Alan – more lovely birds! Have to admire the GCG for tenacity!
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Good afternoon, all. It's quite weird having both the LG and the Dyfi webcams up and showing empty nests. It's turned out to be an absolutely beautiful day here - I'm watching a few birds on our feeders though we are seeing much less of the starlings now, which is about normal for August.
NEW BLOG from AUDREY.
Thanks, OG!
Hi, Margo - I can see your sign in listed again! I really hope this means you're feeling a little better? We really miss you on here.
