This is a new thread to follow the travels of these three young ospreys from the Loch Garten nest.
Oighrig
This male juvenile is the elder of the 2013 brood, hatched on 25th May and fledged on 16th July.
Oighrig’s ring is Blue/white CF5
Breagha
Also male, the younger of the 2013 brood, hatched 28th May and fledged on 19th July.
Breagha’s ring is Blue/white CF4.

Caledonia
Hatched on 16th May 2012, fledged on 14th July and left Loch Garten on 19th August.
The travels of Caledonia and her sister Alba were first followed in this thread, now closed. Caledonia is the first juvenile osprey tracked from Loch Garten to settle in Europe; she has been living on the northern outskirts of Seville for nearly a year now.
Caledonia’s ring is Blue/White AA1, reading downwards. LG blog on the ringing and tagging of Caledonia & Alba.
Following the tracking
This page gives a quick overview of the routes on a map, which will be more useful once Oighrig & Breagha start migrating.
If you want to look at the routes in more detail on Google Earth, this page contains instructions on setting up your PC to do this.
Colour codes for the routes on Google Earth:
Oighrig - Brown
Breagha - Black
Caledonia - Yellow
Oighrig & Breagh's explorations around Loch Garten - now up to 11th August
Is Breagh represented by the black line? He seems to be exploring well.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Caledonia 11th/12th August - mainly at her roost on the Guadalquivir, but also with a point on the 11th towards the airport and another on the 12th on the area NE of San Jose de la Rinconada, which she has been visiting quite a bit recently.
My theory - she is fishing in irrigation canals, and the ponds which they supply. With no rain now for a couple of months, this heavily-cultivated area will be dependent on water drawn from higher up the Guadalquivir, so they will be fresh water fish.
The canal starts near the town of Penaflor, towards Cordoba, and can be followed on GE. It divides into two SE of Brenes, near the area Caledonia is visiting
Thank you for starting this thread, SUE, and with all the basic info and more :-)
IMAGICAT
SUE C - Just what we needed bringing all LG birds together and a simple way for us amateurs to keep track - Unfortunately never been able to master the downloads and track myself.
Yes Sue C thank you for starting this thread and so happy Caledonia is doing well and oh she is a star. Not saying anymore and soon updates on Oighrig and Breagh :)
Caledonia updated to 17th August. No real change.
Great Thread idea SUE. Thank you
A screenshot of the spot where Oighrig spent his first night away from home, 20th/21st August, north of Bamff, Perth. This is less than 5 miles east of Bridge of Cally, EJ's birthplace.
Have had a look on Geograph (a useful website while they are still in the UK) and the spot seems to be in this square
I think LG are expecting more data today.
