Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey) Sunday 11 August 2013

Happy New Week!

Last week's Weekly Chat thread is HERE.

The code for this week's Weekly Chat thread is WC110813 (in case you ever need to find it using the search box).

(WC stands for Weekly Chat. 11 is the day, 08 is the month, and 13 is the year. I will always follow this format.)

Don't forget to watch for the Perseid Meteor Shower tonight and tomorrow night. If you have cloudy skies, you can watch the online webcasts. See my post at the end of last week's chat thread.

Sending good energy to Margo, Patricia, NiteOwl, Buzz, and anyone else who is dealing with adversity.

I haven't seen Lynette posting for a while. Lynette, I hope you have recovered well from your operation!!!

Also, sending a shout out to Auntie in Finland, who's probably working very hard at her career, and to DJoanS -- also to Caerann in Chicago (I thought of her this week).

  • That's great news, Heather - thank you so much!  And you're not a disgrace at all.  Please give Margo our best wishes - we're always thinking of her.

By the way, how are you?

See I've just missed NiteOwl -  thinking of you again, NiteOwl, take care.

Just remembered that it's Monday and I usually put on a Monday Smile.  Today it can be a couple of photos of some strange beings we met as we left the Flower Show the other week.  Everyone got their cameras out as these two characters were walking around, even though they had no apparent legs, and were talking to all the visitors and cracking lots of gardening jokes!!  (of course, I have forgotten all of them now.... but it was really funny!)

~     hilarious!!!    and they spoke in strange accents, like 'yokels'   -  it really made my day!!

Those are great, Lindy - I bet you loved them.

  • Thank you Limpy, I am fine! Getting ready for France. I am going to post tonight, hopefully, when in a semi horizontal position and maybe a nice glass of vin rouge to hand!
  • Thanks Limpy!   - Yes, my OH had to tear me away as I love quirky things like that.

Heather:  Thanks so much for Margo's news.  I have been thinking of her a lot, every day.  Good that she can now be at home and Billie will be pleased, too.   Have a great time in France!  (& no, you are not a disgrace at all!!)

  • NITEOWL   Thank you. Dental check up ok. They confirmed I needed a crown after filling kept falling out, but don't think there is an infection after all so RCT not needed.

LINDY   How was Buzzs vet appt?

  • LINDY   love the pot plants, or should that be potty plants!!!!

HEATHER   hope you enjoy your holiday in France. You have been through the mill and surely need a break.

  • dibnlib:   Sounds expensive, needing a crown. How we suffer with our teeth - I lost a bit off my front tooth again yesterday (biting into a cherry) and now its very sharp and I have a gap right in the middle of the front of my smile.  Off to the Dentist for a checkup next week so hopefully he can fix it then.  He will probably say "Again??"

They were indeed, potty plants!!!  - such fun!!

  • Morning all: Wrapped myself up last night, got a warm throw usually reserved for winter, unscrewed all the bulbs in the motion-sensor lights and sat in the swivel chair on the patio for an hour in an effort to see the Perseid Shower. Turned out to be more a sprinkle than a shower - saw three of them for sure and maybe a fourth. The first one streaked across the sky right after I sat down so I thought that was a fluke, but then about 30 mnutes later, saw another very bright streak in the same area of the sky - was so sudden and bright it made me catch my breath.  Then there was the was-it-or-wasn't-it? one; then another definite streak over my head. At that point, having given Lightning a midnight snack, I decided that was good enough and went off to bed.  Would love to go out to the desert one year though - the air is amazingly clear so the show would be spectacular. I did call my granddaughter (on a 24-hour shift in Arizona) and told her to take a look if she had the time.

Diane: Thanks for your message to our MIAs, I think of Caerann now and then and wonder how she's doing; hope her job worked out well.  I'm definitely not a Suduko person (or Scrabble - strategy is not my thing); Iprefer solo puzzles (jigsaws/crosswords/solitaire).  Hope you got the sawdust vacuumed up; don't let anyone see you or they'll think you're OCD or something.  :-)  I picked up some leaves the other day and the neighbor drove by; probably thought I had nothing better to do, but they'd escaped the rake!  No bats to bother me last night during the Perseid Sprinkle; just the cat (and thank heaven, having just seen the bat photo).

AQ: Interesting that "cactus" would be synonymous with "broken."  I was thinking "tricky/difficult."   We have "potlucks" here, where everyone brings a dish to share.  "Strine" a very tricky language methinks - it seems to all come down to that accent.

Mulberry: Can't imagine doing a jigsaw the "wrong" way round. I buy them coz I love the pictures/paintings (I didn't buy this Mona Lisa one - had already decided it was too dark; it was a gift from a friend who went to Paris.)  Nine nights of night shift? Eeek. That must play havoc with your circadian clock. Talking of "slough" - we have one near us but Americans (or Californians at least) pronounce it "slew."  Ha! I remember Llanfair..........   Never been there and have never tried saying it!. Is it actually on a roadsign anywhere?  And I remember the longest nonscientific word in the English language (at least when I was growing up) was "proantidisestablishmentarianism" - something about being for those who are against the separation of the church and state? But I could be way off with the definition.

Lindybird: Ugh, we have a box in the garage full of old computer and stereo cables and another box full of extension cords from various old houses and apartments.  I try to keep the battery chargers under control in the office, but suspect they multiply when I'm asleep.   Our favorite saying here is "Another Day in Paradise" (sorry!).  Oh I LOVE the Flowerpot men!  Does anyone remember the original Flowerpot Men - Bill and Ben - from Andy Pandy - oh God, now I'm going to have the theme song in my brain all day...... "Andy Pandy's coming today, la-la-la-la-laaa-la, Andy Pandy's here to play, la-lala-la-la." Or something ghastly like that.  Sorry if I've planted an earworm in everyone's head!

Heather: You are NOT a disgrace; apart from being a lovely addition to the blog, you're our invaluable connection to Margo. So glad she's out of the hospital and do hope she'll feel better soon now that a care package has been arranged.  Have a lovely time in France and a glass of vin rouge for me.

dibnlib/Clare/everyone else I've missed; take care and have a good day. I'm off to hose down and sort myself out.
