Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey) Sunday 11 August 2013

Happy New Week!

Last week's Weekly Chat thread is HERE.

The code for this week's Weekly Chat thread is WC110813 (in case you ever need to find it using the search box).

(WC stands for Weekly Chat. 11 is the day, 08 is the month, and 13 is the year. I will always follow this format.)

Don't forget to watch for the Perseid Meteor Shower tonight and tomorrow night. If you have cloudy skies, you can watch the online webcasts. See my post at the end of last week's chat thread.

Sending good energy to Margo, Patricia, NiteOwl, Buzz, and anyone else who is dealing with adversity.

I haven't seen Lynette posting for a while. Lynette, I hope you have recovered well from your operation!!!

Also, sending a shout out to Auntie in Finland, who's probably working very hard at her career, and to DJoanS -- also to Caerann in Chicago (I thought of her this week).

  • Morning all: Finished Mona Lisa!  Hurray. Now admiring her before stuffing her back in the box.

Off to Ojai for the day to meet a friend of a friend; she lives up north and is down for her "take care of Mom" shift that she shares with her siblings. We're going out to lunch, then I'm going to poke around the town - it's very quaint and pretty with lots of shops to putter about in and spend money, but will try to restrain myself.  Will catch up later.

  • seen this lurking in the woods earlier

    l.loo

  • Lovely pictures, Lindyloo.  Is that a cuckoo or a sparrowhawk?

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Thanks for finding the Badger programme Alan, I've set the recorder for it :-)

  • Evening all: Drove to meet friend for lunch today (a 45-minute drive) only to find the much recommended restaurant was closed for the week. It has a very nice website, but no mention of the closure - just a handwritten note on the front door!  Grrrrr. They do have a place for comments on their site, so I left a very polite message telling of our frustration. Other than that, managed to save all kinds of money by not buying all the nice bits and bobs in all the nice little stores.

Lindy: Oh oooh - a large chunk of cheek?  Poor Buzz; please give him a pat on the head from me too. Sorry you're losing posts - I've been lucky so far.

Brenda: Hope you didn't trip over the bowls from lack of sleep and that Penny settles down a bit before she moves on.

Alan: Those GCGs certainly like to see what's going on around them - and that is one huge cow. Is it pregnant?

George: Thanks for reporting on your visit with OG and Eagle-Eye; did they take some pix of Diesel too?

Lynette: Good to see you; my laptop is slowing down too - and freezing. Sometimes I'll hit C+Alt+Delete half a dozen times to get it to shut down the problem program (usually IE). Grrrr.  September should be a good time to go on vacation right? Fewer crowds?

NiteOwl: How about Childrens' Hour and  "Are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin...."

Diane: Oh dear, I was thinking the UK badgers could do with one of those medieval swords right now. What a lovely story though - thanks for passing it on.

Mulberry: Hope there's no Track 11 on that CD.

A day at home tomorrow; though maybe I'll make it to the gym. In the meantimed, take care everyone!

Annette: Did you see this? Los Angeles to San Francisco in 30 minutes!

Never mind about LA to San Fran. How about a speedier way of getting from Aussieland to UpOver. It usually took about 30 hours from my front door to B&B. Nearly 7 hours to Singapore, then the loooong leg 12-13 hours to Europe plus time in transit, security, customs, etc, etc.

I took new camera to "duck pond" for further trials. I certainly didn't expect to see ducklings! These must be prem babies LOL.
While Father wood duck stands guard, Mother gives last minute safety instructions.

    Swimming practice.

This interloper caused Father to chase him off, twice. The one shot I managed, was completely out of focus. I must have moved in my excitement.

  • AQ: Seriously cute pix! Can't imagine traveling from OZ to UpOver by tube; don't like to fly either. Will probably have to wait for continental drift to crunch us all up together again!

  • I was going to caption this "Spot the odd man out" until I noticed, besides the dove, I captured a swooping swallow. The others are ubiquitous silver gulls.
