Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey) Sunday 11 August 2013

Happy New Week!

Last week's Weekly Chat thread is HERE.

The code for this week's Weekly Chat thread is WC110813 (in case you ever need to find it using the search box).

(WC stands for Weekly Chat. 11 is the day, 08 is the month, and 13 is the year. I will always follow this format.)

Don't forget to watch for the Perseid Meteor Shower tonight and tomorrow night. If you have cloudy skies, you can watch the online webcasts. See my post at the end of last week's chat thread.

Sending good energy to Margo, Patricia, NiteOwl, Buzz, and anyone else who is dealing with adversity.

I haven't seen Lynette posting for a while. Lynette, I hope you have recovered well from your operation!!!

Also, sending a shout out to Auntie in Finland, who's probably working very hard at her career, and to DJoanS -- also to Caerann in Chicago (I thought of her this week).

  • Hello All, Diane and everyone concerned and wishing me well, thank you, both myself and Mulberry are coming to terms with the situation we've had to deal with over the last few weeks.

Lindy have a lovely day with your visitors, I'm just having a cup of tea and would love a buttered jammy scone to go with... Lol :-)

Wishing you all a happy Sunday!

  • Afternoon all,

Linda : Thanks for all those lovely pics and I hope Buzz is recovering well from his op.

After having lunch at Elton yesterday we went for a picnic at Barnwell CP. First of all we went to Van Hage but it was mobbed  as there was a boot sale on and a massive queue for the breakfasts. Not a lot to report at Barnwell but I did find out that there had been a red kite nest in a willow across the backwater to the north of North Lake. Unfortunately no word of any chicks. On arriving home there were 17 goldfinches in the garden, 10 on the ground and 7 on the feeders. Fairly sure that is a record and they are definately our most common garden bird now.

  • How lovely, Alan.  We're getting a few goldfinches but nothing like your numbers yet.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • OG  have a good time in Fife. LINDY   I do hope you have a fun family visit.

AQ  when we first moved to Shetland we sometimes found the very gutteral accent and unusual words difficult to follow. Some people took pity on us, but others quite rightly spoke as they were used to, and that is the way it shoud be. They didn't ask us to go there, we went out of choice and should follow their ways, not the other way round.

  • I can agree with that, Dibnlib.

  • Had a good afternoon with Eldest & his OH - the scones were a big success, eaten with my OH's home made strawberry jam - yum!  Wish I could send you some, NiteOwl. Sending you another <HUG> instead....

  • Hope you enjoy Fife, OG and Eagle Eye. Weather should be reasonable. Hope the boiler problem is sorted out for you.

Buzz is recovering and enjoying his "little meals, often" which was recommended and of course enjoyed being fussed over by the visitors.

Alan - what an amazing number of goldfinches!!!!!

  • Mulberry - The Battle of the Big Cupboard is ongoing.....I found two different kinds of battery recharger and declared that they were not going back in again! However, they both work so will have to go live on the garage. I got a lot of stuff back in again,in better order, but now am faced with--- the other half of the cupboard!!!!  (told you it was a big one ;-)))

  • Here's a link to the Slooh Space Camera (in the Canary Islands) webcast of tonight's Perseid Meteor Shower peak. Starts in 4 hours.

  • Ah, so it's a battle of two halfs, Lindy. Hope it's not like Braveheart, where the Battle of Stirling Bridge ends with Wallace set to be King of Scotland for 50 years. Then you realise the movie has over an hour to go, and it's all downhill from there...

Good luck, Lindy. Remember, Britain is behind you. What we achieve in life echoes an eternity. They may take our lives, but they'll never take our battery chargers...
