Happy New Week! Last week's Weekly Chat thread is HERE.
The code for this week's Weekly Chat thread is WC110813 (in case you ever need to find it using the search box).
(WC stands for Weekly Chat. 11 is the day, 08 is the month, and 13 is the year. I will always follow this format.)
Don't forget to watch for the Perseid Meteor Shower tonight and tomorrow night. If you have cloudy skies, you can watch the online webcasts. See my post at the end of last week's chat thread.
Sending good energy to Margo, Patricia, NiteOwl, Buzz, and anyone else who is dealing with adversity.
I haven't seen Lynette posting for a while. Lynette, I hope you have recovered well from your operation!!!
Also, sending a shout out to Auntie in Finland, who's probably working very hard at her career, and to DJoanS -- also to Caerann in Chicago (I thought of her this week).
Hi, Lindy! I must confess that in my youth I would have liked to have met an Australian man just to find out if the infamous line 'Brace yourself, Sheila' was actually in use!! Sorry, Aquilareen.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
I won't forget that concert for a very long time. I don't see them very often and they are exceptionally good live.
Clare: Had my doubts, & didn't want to complicate the discussion, but just looked up "strine" on Google and it says it refers to a version of "Australian English"
Must go & tidy up as visitors coming! Also said I would make some scones & don't even know if I have all the ingredients in!
Have a Good Day, All!!
And you, Lindy.
How nice - there's a new Blog from Kayleigh.
Thanks, Clare: would not have noticed. I have my scone ingredients so am now going to go & get all floury...
Just looked back and thanks for the comments on my last batch of photos on the WChat. (I knew you would love the ones about the Galaxies, Diane....)
ps. Keep forgetting to say, sorry to hear that you have major boiler trouble, OG - still, better than in Winter when you might have frozen to death waiting for an engineer. :-)
Annette - there used to be some serious jigsaw puzzlers around when I was a kid. My grandad used to say it was cheating to use the picture when doing a jigsaw. By that, I don't mean to use the picture on the lid of the box. he actually used to do the jigsaw upside down, with the plain cardboard facing upwards, so that all he had was the shapes to go on!
Lindybird - You didn't tell us the outcome of The Battle Of The Big Cupboard. Was it a Lindy victory or did the contents of the cupboard take over the whole house?
Blimey – on the second page already – must get a move on! Continuing sunshine with showers here – cooler but still not very cold. Been packing and making dinner for 1:30 when J gets in from church. Had to freeze some excess runner beans too – he won’t eat them if we left them for him!
Diane – thanks for our new week, and reminding us of our missing persons!
AQ – I often wonder how immigrants here understand some of our idioms – but was happy myself to learn Scot-speak when I moved over the border! Pleased to see the camera trip went well – glad it was a nice day.
Annette – I hope you did (or will) manage to see Perseids – I think I go to bed too early for them! Lots of tidying in the garden, but what we haven’t done will now wait till next weekend. This is the time of the year when I dread it turning wet so nothing can be sorted until spring!
Mulberry – I hate it when a tune gets stuck in my brain (although I didn’t know that one) – but I can usually ask our son to give me a new one! My mother used to challenge me to do jigsaws without the picture – good brain training!
Clare – so pleased the concert was all you had hoped!
Lindy – haven’t heard that before about “earworms”! I think “Strine” is a reduction of “Australian” with some letters left out – try saying Australian with the accent! Have a good visit, and I hope the scones go down well!
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
