Happy new week and new month!
The world's oldest known calendar device has been found in Scotland. It's based on the phases of the moon, as well as the position of the sun, and is 10,000 years old. That's 5,000 years older than the first formal calendar devices found in the Near East, which were thought to be the earliest. The device provides further evidence that Scotland's early civilisations were much more advanced than previously thought.
Morning all,
We have had a green woodpecker in the area for some time but I have not been able to get a pic of it until today when I spotted it on a neighbours roof together with a juvenile. here are the pics I got through the utility room window:
Really lovely ALAN Its years since I've seen a green woodpecker
Heather – Sorry about the knees being so troublesome. I hope you will manage to access all the edibles your Brother and his family like to receive from the UK. Pleased that your grandson is more settled; it is good that he is asking those questions rather than bottling them up. I hope the week with their father on holiday will not unsettle the two of them.
Alan – thank you so much for sharing the green Woodpecker – I remember them from when I was young, but don’t know when I last saw one. Great that it is raising a young one too.
OH has gone to Tesco and J to the optician, so I am just pootling about!
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
SuperBadger is headin for the cull zones to save the planet:
Lovely day, with a warm breeze - wish I'd known that BEFORE I put the sheets in the tumble-dryer!
Sorry, Alan, but Super Badger looks like he's wearing a fig leaf!
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
