Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey), Sunday 28 July 2013

Happy new week and new month!

The world's oldest known calendar device has been found in Scotland. It's based on the phases of the moon, as well as the position of the sun, and is 10,000 years old.

That's 5,000 years older than the first formal calendar devices found in the Near East, which were thought to be the earliest. The device provides further evidence that Scotland's early civilisations were much more advanced than previously thought.

  • Just tried a reply but it wouldn't post. One more try! Happy 45th anniversary, OG Thanks to all for your posts etc Linda- Your friends menu sounds unusual and very tasty, what a lot of thought and work must have gone into it. I have been in Elgin all day with youngest family, had a nice lunch out with them.
  • Happy Anniversary Linda & OH. BTW I don't give LittleMiss much attention - I spend my time doing chores for Dau. While she was away at the shops, I ignored LM, sat knitting while LM played by herself. I don't think she realized her mother was missing until her return. I walk away from tantrums. But Dau can't do that if LM is refusing to get into car seat or other necessary things.

Annette - Since LittleMiss could sit up, she's in a forward-facing carseat. I guess regulations are different over your way.

Freezy night, down to 3.5 C but blue sky and 10 C now (9 am).

  • Happy Anniversary,

    OG and Eagle-Eye!

  • Lindy: I'm sorry that your brother is being annoying. I hope it isn't a situation that will endure long. I can empathize with you. :-( I enjoyed the new garden photos.

Fish: I would definitely turn a deaf ear to loan requests. LOL!

    Alan: Lovely goldfinches.

Tiger: I'm not surprised about the bear research restrictions. I don't follow that site, because I knew that there would be a negative outcome eventually. It's a shame.

AQ: Congrats on solving the mysteries at the library!

Annette: I don't know how the scientists found the new antibiotic off the SoCal coast. On my Facebook page, I subscribe to several science sites, and I get links to articles about new discoveries and research. I was just skimming that article, and I saw Santa Barbara mentioned. It is a very important find. Hope you are doing well!

    Night, all.

  • Evening all:

OG/Eagle-Eye:  Happy anniversary! Surely there must be a cream tea somewhere near to celebrate? OG: I should've caught that (brown vs. black bears).

dibnlib: What a lovely day you had - and all that great food.

Alan: California is about to re consider fracking rules here. Just what we need: iffy water and the chance of more earthquakes!   Pix of the finches are wonderfully clear!

Lindybird: Oh dear; sounds like your bro's affairs might be complicated and time consuming...

Heather: How are your grandkids doing, especially the boy who was having trouble adjusting after the breakup?

AQ:  Well!  Fat lot I know about car seat regs; apparently they can face forward after one year of age or 20 pounds, but still have to be in the back seat. Note to self: Must pay more attention to Ms D as I wave hallo/goodbye!

Diane:  Doing fine here; in spite of fact that I went out for a walk this morning wearing calf-length pants (trousers to UK folks) and a light jacket over my T-shirt due to Unseasonably Low Temps!! Had nice lunch with friend; then off to the gym for a modest workout.  Hope you've got a hardhat on hand - or better yet on your head! - while that tree is still being sorted.

Off to work on my Mona Lisa jigsaw puzzle (lots of very dark bits) and see if there's anything on telly worth having on in the background.   Take care all and Special Hugs to Margo.

  • Celebrations may be muted,

but congratulations gratefully noted on our Sapphire Wedding Anniversary.

     Thank you.

  • Eagle-eye, what a lovely picture!  Congratulations to you both.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • ALAN love the Goldfinches. I have had nyger seed out for months now, but no luck

LINDY really pleased you are using the wildflower pic.

  • OG   Must have missed it was your wedding anniversary. Many congratulations.

  • Congratulations to OG & Eagle-Eye!!
