Happy new week and new month!

The world's oldest known calendar device has been found in Scotland. It's based on the phases of the moon, as well as the position of the sun, and is 10,000 years old.

That's 5,000 years older than the first formal calendar devices found in the Near East, which were thought to be the earliest. The device provides further evidence that Scotland's early civilisations were much more advanced than previously thought.

  • Morning all:

Tiger: Re the new Minnesota bear project  - how typically shortsighted to prohibit internet coverage!  If they're out of sight, they're out of mind and some funding/contributions generated by the access could drop off.

Lindybird: Oooh, that dinner with friends sounds Wonderful!  Sorry about your brother - hope he's not planning to arrive on your doorstep for a long visit! I bet the garden show (love that floral "tent") organizers were thankful for the good weather; speaking of which, hope it stays good for your long weekend away.

AQ: Congrats on solving (church) mysteries at the library.  Hard to ignore defiant toddlers; some moms can do it better than others (I suspect I was in the "other" group). It's especially difficult with car seats; they all seem to resist them at some point, but then, I wouldn't want to be restrained facing the wrong way when all the action is in front.  So far, Ms.D hasn't made an issue of that, but I'm sure it's on the horizon.....

OG: They called is the marine layer here - gray cloud that hangs about all morning and has all the tourists wondering why they came; typically a June phenomenon.

fish: I couldn't get away with playing deaf when it comes to requests for "loans."  Grandson has just paid us back for money we loaned him to buy a bed, only because we made it clear no future loans will be forthcoming until the previous ones had been repaid.  In the meantime, granddaughter seems to have developed a knack for actually saving money!!!

Diane: Stay clear of that tree; had to laugh at OG's remark about direct deposit option from your insurance company - that'll be the day!!

Off to get organized.  Take care everyone.

  • LINDY  that lunch sounds more like a royal banquet. Funnily enough, our main meal yesterday was parma ham with melon and sundried tomatoes. I served it on a bed of watercress with a honey and balsamic dressing and a spoonful of creme fraiche. Yummy

Sorry about your bro, but have to say I am glad I am not the only one with an annoying brother. Hope you get things sorted out.

    1. We had a lovely walk at Kings Steps, Nairn this morning. Then it was on to Brodie where we had coffee and a cream cake each (we usually share). OH bought a shirt and I bought a pair of cotton/denim look trousers at half price. Being Brodie this was still more than a lot of trouses are at full price, but the material is lovely and apart from the length they are a perfect fit. I will take them to a lady who loves sewing and she will take them up for me for just a couple of pounds. We stopped off at a local fruit farm and bought strawberries, rasps and tayberries. A jolly good day. We are drowning in salads at the mo so supper is Chicken Veronique.

  • Support the villagers of Balcombe in their protest against fracking. Remember this could be coming to a village near you.

  • Loads of goldfinches today on the feeders. :

Hi everyone. I know that some of you are avid followers of  the brown bear project in Minnesota.

Lily and co are Black Bears, Tiger!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Alan - nice pics again.  The fracking is an issue here in the N West and its worrying that there is really not enough known about the long term effects.

Dibnlib - I liked your photo of the colourful wildflowers so much I've used it as a wallpaper on my PC - hope you don't mind!

Annette - My brother is unlikely to travel, thank goodness but I have to sometimes deal with his financial affairs in the UK and these things are never straightforward, darn it :-((

  • Alan, all of us like your goldfinches - even our teenager!

  • Nice day but drizzle this evening. Quiche for lunch, then milkshakes at the ice-cream farm after shopping. Evening spent dividing shopping into freezer portions.

Linda – sorry about your brother annoying you by phone, I hope you managed to calm down! Sounds like you enjoyed the meal with Friend. I would only have eaten the salad and potatoes, a bit of cheese and as many strawberries as I was allowed! Pleased you caught up with the friend from the south. More great Tatton pictures too! Are those Clematis the dwarf ones which can be grown in patio pots?

Annette – good to see you attach conditions when you lend money to the Grandson; they have to learn.

Dibnlib – sounds like a lovely time out this morning. Our SiL’s Sister and her OH (with the help of her parents) have the Mill at Brodie, but we never stop there for a meal! I like Brodie Castle when the Daffs are out!

Alan – lovely Goldfinch pictures, but what has happened to junior’s tail?

Well, nearly time to call it a day; 45th anniversary tomorrow, but nothing planned.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
