Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey), Sunday 28 July 2013

Happy new week and new month!

The world's oldest known calendar device has been found in Scotland. It's based on the phases of the moon, as well as the position of the sun, and is 10,000 years old.

That's 5,000 years older than the first formal calendar devices found in the Near East, which were thought to be the earliest. The device provides further evidence that Scotland's early civilisations were much more advanced than previously thought.

  • Evening all:  Busy evening; will catch up on the morrow.....

  • Annette: This was discovered off the coast of Santa Barbara.

  • Hello all Diane - I hope that tree comes down soon !! Trying to get insurance payouts can be so difficult at times. I know there is a lot of fraud about and they have to watch out for people making spurious claims but all the same I think their wallets are sealed with super glue. I had a very kind PM from a lurker on here. I have tried to reply but not at all sure that I was successful. So I am saying a THANK YOU and hoping that it is read by my correspondent!
  • Home after day at Dau2's. She escaped to shops while MissNO played happily. I dealt with dry then wet washing, then pile of ironing. That's more than I do here. Tomorrow is my escape to library. Woo hoo

  • Good Morning.  Dry & Sunny here, but heavy showers forecast for later.  My garden has appreciated the rain we've had over the last couple of days.

Sorry if I've missed anyone out in my replies lately, but be assured that I have read all of the posts (some twice!) and digested them.  A cardboard medal is on its way to AQ for doing laundry at Dau2's, above and beyond the call of duty!

Diane:  That is a fascinating link you give above:  wonderful to hear good news for once, on that front.  Do hope something can be done with your dangerous tree. Perhaps you should be in a tent in the yard until its resolved!!  Seriously, though, you would think that they would get something done before it possibly does expensive damage.

More Flower Show pics below in separate post:  I find that sometimes they don't post these days so I only write short ones now!  Glad that my pics so far have been enjoyed, there are lots more yet...

    Have a Good Day, All!

  • Next instalment:

Cannas!  - they were  h u g e, the tallest more than 6 feet!  The guy was thrilled as he got a Gold Medal for them, and it was his first time at exhibiting! On his counter, he had a big metal pail with some more flowers in, and a notice saying "A Can o' Cannas!"  LOL!!

(  A tip on inserting pics, with this new *%^*£*  system!  - after you click on 'Browse' and choose your picture, DO NOT TOUCH THE MOUSE once you have chosen it and clicked on 'Open' to insert - I find it says "Error"  every time!)

EDIT:  Of course, once you can see your pic appearing, its all OK.  Don't worry if it shows a Red Box with a cross in it, it will still appear in your post....

  • More beautiful pics, lindy, thank you. Now I must get in the shower and get on with chores :-(
  • Dillon got his walk when OH got home from work at 8.45 and there was a short break in the rain. Lovely weather this am for a walk before breakfast and off out now for a swim and coffee.

Thanks for the tip on posting pics and enjoyed those of Tatton Park flowers, thanks.

  • DIane I have just read you message of last night - thank you for the good thoughts . Thank you also to anyone I have missed regarding the same thing. I often inadvertently miss half a page of messages when first 'tuning in' , usually with my first wake up coffee to hand!
  • Hi everybody, just back from trip to Porthmadog. Trying to find last weeks Weekly Chat to read back and it's taking me ages! Can I make a suggestion. When we start the new Weekly Chat, can we include a search code in the first post. EG This week would say "WC280713" at the end of the first post. That way, all we have to do is put the code in the search box and it would take us straight to the week in question!
