Weekly Chat, Sunday March 7

Hi all. Off to read last week's latest posts.

  • Diane, Forgot to say, I love the penguin picture. Very strange though. I kept looking for the catch/ April Fool joke.

  • HeatherB lots of cuddles from me as well for you and your family.  My thoughts are with you.  It must be such a difficult time for you all.  At least you can share your thoughts with everyone on this blog who are the most caring bunch of people I know.  So many people who feel the same way as you are feeling.

  • Wattle 15 so sad to read that the little koala didn't make it.  I remember watching several news items about the plight of the koalas during the bushfires.

  •  A further Thankyou for the very uplifting and supportive messages from everyone - very very much appreciated - also the flower pics which sadly, I cannot open. I closed down earlier than usual last night and am gutted to see from today's posts that they were visible for a short time. Maybe the tech. hitch will untangle itself soon---

  • Good morning all have been trying to catch up with all the postings, really busy on this site yesterday.

Thanks for all the links but unfortunately the photos have disappeared, if you don't catch them as they go on they go very quickly.

Alan thanks as ever for the info about various bird cams and of course links to others.  Sad to read about the barn owls but this is nature only the strongest survive.

Had such a good day in London yesterday. I thought it was cold here in Poole but got a shock when we got off the train at Waterloo as it absolutely freezing with a bitterly cold wind.

As you can see I have not been arrested and put in jail.  I was extremely quiet and even if I had made my feelings known they would not have been heard as there are screens all round the gallery to protect them from people like me who would have loved the chance to have my say.

PM question time was extremely lively and both sides of the house got told off for being so vocal and terribly noisy with it.  I had to smile they were like a lot of naughty children.  We were met by our local MP Robert Syms who took us on a short tour and I was quite surprised how much smaller the House of Lords and House of Commons were as it  looks much bigger on the TV.   We also shook hands with David Trimble (a previous Northern Ireland Minister)  who was in conversation with our MP for while.  We watched as the Speaker was marched in to take his seat and it makes you realise that this has been going on in exactly the same way for many many years.  The history and tradition is just fascinating.  Such a surprise to be in the Houses of Parliament and see the wonderful paintings and statues.  It is a very big place and we are now planning to go up again and have a good look round.    Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament are looking magnificent as they have been cleaning it up and it is very impressive.  When you look from the outside you  do not realise how impressive it is inside.    As I said it was very lively and David Cameron took great offence at a remark Gordon Brown made and was most annoyed.  I have to say he is a very good speaker.  We saw Anne Widdiecombe as well who always brings a smile to my face as she will always say exactly what she thinks.

We then met OH's Mum and had a very nice Italian meal in a restaurant we have been to before so all in all a very good day.

I will go again but it would have to be warmer as when we got back last evening it took ages to get warm again.  It is cloudy today  with some sunny intervals but we still have a very nippy wind.  No frost this morning for the first time in over a week.

My birds will have missed me yesterday as all the trays were just about empty.  They are terribly spoiled when I am here as I top up their trays all day long.

Smiled at the comments about ironing and have to say it is my least favorite task.  Leave it all far too long then complain about how much there is to do.

Hope you all have a good day.

  • Margobird, glad you had a good time:) Those buildings are incredible and the sense of history in them just is amazing. Glad you got home OK and didn't cause a scene LOL

AQ, sorry it is still warm there and enjoying reading the history.

Diane, you are warmer than us and i thought we were mild! Plenty of rain for us this weekend, just to top the wells up:)

Annette, sorry about your scuffle with the rose bush. Re the gym, I would have taken that as a sign as well:)

Sorry if I've missed anyone but enjoyed catching up:)

  • Afternoon all from TI,

Margobird  I am glad you had a good time at the Houses of Parliament. I watched PMQ s on tele and it was quite a lively debate and exactly as you described it. Sometimes it is incredibly boring but not yesterday. They must have known you were there and put on a good show especially for you.

I havent been able to view any of the last 3 pictures that have gone on here since last night. I did manage to see the black penguin however and it did cross my mind about April Fools day but it looks genuine enough.

Thanks everyone  else for the chat, history and of course the ironing.

This morning LadyP and I went on various missions mostly to do with shopping. Just been out with the Thunderdog and the wind is freezing again. I have so much to do in the garden but this weather is not very inspiring at the moment.

I do trust that those who were ailing continue to go from strength to strength. That Caerann is having positive interviews. That Tish’s  business is on the ‘up’ . That those who need encouragement in any way at all find it and support from family and friends. Warm thoughts to you all.

The male eagle at Two Harbors brought in a really large talon full of ‘something’ soft this morning at 6 am their time when he relieved his partner at the nest. They call so delightfully to each other at times.

Bierregaard  reports Ospreys moving north !!  Yippee. Some of our birds must be on their way north too.

Enjoy your day you lovely lot  J

  • More info and pics of the rare black penguin from National Geographic.

National Geographic is standing by the photograph, but lots of science folk are arguing over its authenticity. Real or photoshop? You decide. :-)

  • Morning all: Coolish last night (well in the mid-40sF) but wind has died down and sun is shining, showing just how dirty all our windows are.  No rain forecast for the next week.   Close encounter with rose bush wasn't bad - I wear long, gauntlet-style leather gloves so it got my upper arms, but no biggie.    I will post more photos of cactus as they flower; this is the time of year - it always so impressive to see such beautiful blooms on such barren-looking plants. Hope they get the pesky server sorted out soon.    Black penguin must be going through Goth stage; maybe a midlife crisis. Wonder if the other penguins notice and if it bothers them.  Margobird: Sounds like a really interesting time you had and a nice dinner too. Good for you.

Do hope it warms up for folks in the UK.  Hallo to everyone; nice to read your posts; off to examine pile of ironing to see if it's multiplied overnight.
