Weekly Chat, Sunday March 7

Hi all. Off to read last week's latest posts.

  • Gary - your mum will love the Rocky Mountaineer train trip ... I did it 2 years ago and it was absolutely fabulous ... stunning scenery, and we were blessed with wonderful weather. Took this pic from the viewing area of our carriage ... the train was so long the front was going round the curve long before we did!

  • Djoan: RM photo gone missing. :-(

  • DjoanS, sounds like a fantastic holiday.I find it hard to visualise just how long that train really is. Looks lovely scenery though.

PM's question time was so noisy, that we would never have heard Margobird even if she had  been yelling at the top of her voice. Good day for her to go though, I would think. I look forward to see what she says on her return.

  • Oh dear ... missing photo again ... now you see it ... now you don't :(( .... maybe it will re-appear at some point! I have put a copy on my page if anyone can't see it and is interested.

  • OH got his fence finished this morning.  I also went outside to divide and re-pot some houseplants – no wind here, BrendaH – very mild and even beginning to smell like spring!  This afternoon, he has a meeting here at home, so I provided coffee and then completed the ironing!  We would both prefer to be out in the garden to doing stuff indoors.  Hello, DjoanS – pleased you also have this milder spring weather and can be busy in the garden – our seed potatoes are sprouting nicely – usually plant them on Good Friday (old gardener’s tradition) but may delay for a week as Easter is early and the season may be late – on the other hand, if soil is beginning to warm up, may just do the usual.  Fantastic Rocky Mountains picture on your later post – not that I would be brave enough for that journey!!

    Got interrupted -… -

George G – lucky you, having choice of two Sainsbury’s!  Our nearest is over the border and then west to Cockermouth!  AQ will be pleased to read that the Scotsman magazine has got it right about SA!  Vane Farm and Loch Leven on the same day?  Enjoy – have some lovely calorific Lemon and Butter Curd for me!  Poor Auntie!  Hope you soon get an easier time at work, no more nasty infections and some lovely spring weather – with a gentle thaw so no floods!  Hi, Annette, hope you weren’t blown away on your walk and that you feel inspired to look at that ironing!

Bird Club tonight – talk on wildlife crime – should be good, but may have to close my eyes for some of the worst pictures!  Back later.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Gary, Djoans and others I had a wonderful holiday some years ago with a cousin and her husband divided their time between Calgary, Alberta and Invermere British Columbia. Didn't do the RM trip, as I didn't need to - journeys between their two homes involved driving through the Rockies.  I'll never forget the experience.  The first view of the Rockies when travelling to BC (jet lagged after about 24 hours travelling!) was just stunning and the cousins kindly took me on various trips to see areas like Banff, Lake Louise and the Icefields.  My family at home thought I'd faked the pictures of the lakes.

OG and Alan I agree about the format of The Lakes.  More of the scenery and wildlife would be great.  We watched a programme about 2 British men who made their way to the Winter Olympics from the Arctic north of British Columbia.  It had a fairly good mix of scenery, wildlife and people. We also watched a programme on BBC Alba (the Gaelic channel) about a Norwegian who spent three years crossing the Canadian tundra from west to east, using a dog sled.  He kept a video diary as he went along.  It was quite incredible.  Needless to say there were subtitles!

  • DJoanS, I can see the photo!! Thank you, it looks stunning. What a trip. That train is sooooo long! i have offered to carry her bags but she declined the offer! lol Thanks and glad you enjoyed it. It is on my "to do " list..

  • Auntie, sorry you have been so busy. Hope you managed to avoid the worst of the things going around. Stay dry when all that snow mealts!

Patriciat, that sounds a wonderful experience. It seems everyone who's been that way has been 'blown away" by the scenery. So nice to have some local knowledge to get you to see some places as well.

Good to hear the catch up from everyone else:)

  • Hi all: Back from walk and other errands and now it's sunny but still very windy.  Djoan: Saw Rocky Mountaineer photo on your page. Thank you!  OG: Ironing is for evenings and rubbish telly programs (except in an emergency!)  patriciat:  Years ago I drove from LA to Calgary with a friend for theCalgary Stampede - huge rodeo, etc with lots of Mounties, etc.  Fabulous drive all the way but also went to Banff, Lake Louise and yes, the scenery is marvellous.

  • Sorry everyone - I need some cuddles. Son in law left for Afghanistan today. Don't want to be too dramatic ,but when my daughter told me that he, she, and their two children were  teary last night, it just broke me up. OK, it is his job, etc etc, but he is off to Helmand and all I can say is Good Luck, 1 Scots.
