Alan do you have any thoughts on where these ospreys are going? All the ospreys we have seen tracked tend to go fairly straight to the nest admittedly sometimes after stopovers. Where are these birds going to hang out for the next few weeks?

Hi Tiger: I don't know where this particular bird is going, but I guess that by visiting Wadebridge in Cornwall it has probably just completed a fairly lengthy sea crossing against the wind so it's no surprise that it was spotted flying low over the town. We know that some birds do migrate South on a westerly migratory path (over Cornwall) so it is likely that they return via the same route.
If this is a Scottish bird it would probably do well to stop for a while before it makes it home. Most birds that go via Cornwall tend to travel up through Wales and I think the recent improvement in the weather in England and Wales will mean that it should be OK to stopover for a while. Will be interesting to see if it is sighted again in the coming days.
Sandy : I agree that the Cornwall sighting probably had completed a longer sea crossing than the LIncolnshire one. Perhaps these are first time returners who have not quite got their timing right yet.

When the DPOF cam was operating there was a suggestion of linking up a school on Long Island with a school near Loch Garten as a way of broadening the horizons of the children. Sadly the DPOF cam is no more and there is no other really suitable alternative. I always liked the idea.
I see my garden pics posted this afternoon have reappeared! Diane and Annette – I might try the Trucker cam – could be quite good to ride on your freeways – a whole new experience! Alan, Sandy and Tiger – well they’re really coming now - I reckon we could be getting one or a few most days now – as one of you said, they will quite possibly rest up a while before coming north, so we shouldn’t worry too much about the weather.

I am not too bothered about the weather. I believe that the Hailuoto ospreys in Finland have to fly a round trip of 160 miles, to get food, when they arrive back in the spring.
