Weekly Chat, Sunday March 7

Hi all. Off to read last week's latest posts.

  • Annette – pleased you had a good time with your friend. There was a lot of wind affecting the bushes around the Hummer nestcams last evening (afternoon).

Patriciat – we’ve also been watching the Lakes series – not bad viewing, but don’t really like that presentation style, broken into small bites of each subject, then back to previous topic.

At home all day today – OH is making a fence behind the garage this morning – strip of concrete behind joined garages, not divided and neighbour keeps throwing rubbish in his end, so we are delineating a border so it stays his side of a barrier – we’ve got enough rubbish of our own!  I am supposed to be doing domestic stuff – where did that ironing pile come from?

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Good Morning Everyone, I didn't post on here yesterday, and there is so much to view and read, so hope you will forgive me for not answering individual news and photographs, but say a big thank you to you all.

Will be thinking of Margobird today at PM's question time. I hope there is something of interest and lively for her to listen to, even though she will probably not agree with what is said.

Hi OG, Ironing does seem to just appear. Wish I could just wave a majic wand over our's. At least you will be warmer than your OH, if the wind is as cold with you as it is here, but there are some sunny intervals. I have just cleaned the bird baths and the water was so cold, even through rubber gloves!

Just having a hot cup of coffee and then have to go to supermarket, so will catch up later.

    Do enjoy today.

  • Morning all - haven't posted for a few days and have been catching up on all the news etc. I don't know where the days go just now - Sundays and the new chat page seem to come round so quickly!

I have discovered that we are going to be away for a few days just when the osprey countdown clock reaches 0 ... how awful is that :(((    I will be terribly selfish and hope that the return is delayed for a few days by the weather! But I will still miss all the excitement of the build-up.

Its a beautiful morning here and I have been pottering in the garden - I am so looking forward to the new growing season - bought my seed potatoes yesterday!

I will be thinking of Margobird too and looking out for any disturbances :))

Thanks to everyone for chat/ pics/ history/ and of course all the camera links - so much to view these days

I took this screenshot of the Derby peregrines this morning - all looking good there

Joan - avid bird and nature watcher in Northumberland!

  • Morning all from TI,

Patriciat & OG :  I have also been watching the series "The Lakes" and I must agree about the format not beeing the best. I also think that they tend to concentrate on the characters rather than the scenery and wildlife although I do like the farmer with the suitcase full of rosettes.

Tiger : I heard a rumour that owls favourite meal is ratatouille.

Not a lot going on here today. Lady P is at her sisters and I have been on a car cleaning mission. Just going to watch PMQ s on tele in case Margobird stages some sort of demonstration.

    Weather is Overcast & Gloomy, dry , Temp 4.6c , cold , Sunrise 06:26 , Sunset 17:55.

Third egg - March 10 Aria & Vento
Second egg - March 10 Alice & Virgilio

  • Annette, glad you had a good time with your friend. I wonder what goes on behind those gates!! LOL I think my mum is doing the Rocky Mountaineer trip. They had a vid on the website and some of the carraiages had glass roofs (I think) she is very excited.

Diane, I am trying to keep away from the "very" traumatic webcams and saving myself for LG.. lol Hope the weather has moderated there. It has here, forecast rain for the weekend, not snow!

Wattle15, thanks for the update. So sad to hear about the bear. I remember so clearly the picture.

OG, good luck to OH with the fence. and for you for the HW...

DjaonS, thanks for the screenshot. Great to see. Have fun when you go away.

Alan, hope the car cleaning went.

  • Afternoon all haven't posted for a few days as things have been fairly quite here. Just returned from a shopping trip to a new Sainsbury's store that has opened in Leven and it is much larger than the one we have in Kirkcaldy.

Just finished reading an article in the magazine you get with the Scotsman on a saturday and it was about a trip to visit different places in SA and it said that SA was not on the tourist trail but it had more going for it than most places in Australia. I also enjoyed the history lessons we are getting about SA and only about a mile from me we have the McDowel Stuart museum  who pioneered the route across Australia for the telephone  line.

Hope to have a trip to Vane Farm tomorrow to see if the eagles are still there and then round to the Loch Leven Larder for some of their Lemon and Butter curd which is delicious and many many calories.

Hope everyone gets there share of the sunshine that we are having this week so far

  • Afternoon all. Sorry for being so quiet lately but have been absolutely knackered. It`s been so busy at work, first there was a small epidemic of diarrhoea amongst patients and when we survived that a flu epidemic broke within nurses, some days almost half of the staff called in sick and no temps/substitutes. Feel a bit bad about complaining about work when there are so many without work everywhere, but still, phew... what a couple weeks it`s been.

Spring will probably/hopefully came to here as well sometime. Temps are getting more tolerable nights still minus double digits but there has been days with few plus degrees :)))) The amount of snow is horrendous still, might need snorkel or/and boat when it really stars to melt...

Hope everyone is well and sorry for this whining post.

  • Morning all: Windy and overcast this morning.

Diane: Oh dear, a dysfunctional owl family. I just check in on them from time to time (along with all those other webcams)  Maybe they need an "owl whisperer."  Thanks for the info.   Ha!. Our TVs must've been in the same shipment as yours.

Wattle: Thanks for the happy ending to our bathing beauty's story. Nice to know some of them survived.

OG: The persistent wind that has affected the entire SoCal area has stopped the whale count for now;  there's some kind of front moving through.  Now they're saying we may have showers today, but we should be back to normal (sunny and calm!) tomorrow.   Hmm, I think someone is sneaking into our houses and leaving big piles of ironing - I have the same problem - didn't do it while watching the Oscars and now it's even bigger.  All the makings of a horror movie!

Gary: Lots of gardening - not done, of course, by the owners - goes on behind those gates.  The RM train is a great trip; never done it; always wanted to. Lucky her!!  That scenery is marvellous.

So nice to see familiar names on the page - even if you're all busy with one thing and another. Thanks for jokes (ratatouille indeed!), pix, links, and all your news.  Off for walk.

Wonder if Margobird has lobbed her shoe at anyone yet. Alan: you must keep us advised of an untoward events.

  • Dunedin ospreys are getting big. Shame about the camera quality on this webcam:
