Weekly Chat, Sunday March 7

Hi all. Off to read last week's latest posts.

  • Hello Annete looking forward to Question Time, I do watch on the TV each week and it can get very lively so hoping it will be tomorrow.  Yes have burned the bra and have a shoe ready to throw as well.

  • Hallo Caerann thanks for the link and what a wonderful photo of a snowy owl.

  • Afternoon all,

Mission accomplished and just finished taking Hamish for a walk and got caught in a shower of rain. Poor Hamish is not only cold but wet as well now. Have dried him off as best I can.

Caerann : Thanks for the snowy owl picture link. Wonderful birds.

AQ : Thanks once again for the history lesson. We certainly did not get Australian history at school from what little I can remember.

Margobird : This is the first morning that the bird bath was not frozen and it is several degrees milder today.

Too many webcams and not enough time.

James river bridge falcons now have an egg:

  • Alan - sorry poor Hamish got wet - and you, of course!  Was sunny here, no frost, reasonable temp - now cloudy but no rain.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • AQ, thanks, enjoying reading the SA history. Incredible how things change

Caerann, lovely photo of the owl! Beautiful. Hope it stays rain your way.

Annette, hadn't thought about the "chop" interfering with the whale count. Yes, that picture of the sign was taken on our counter top. Small world you have something very similar. I take no credit for picking it as it came with the house!! lol (Diane!!)

Hi Dibnlib:) I think the poster I did for Hamish is a little too femine for him. He needs more of a male profile on there but I ran out of time search for images!

OG, glad your health is good at the moment. Good luck with all the appointments

Alan, great picture. Hope Hamish has forgiven you for getting him wet. Do you have a heater in his house?

Can't say I feel too perky at the moment. Had a tummy upset a couple of days ago, better yesterday , but not so good today. Still, being a man I'm bravely pushing forward, not making a fuss................................................

  • Morning all:

Diane: I tell you, every time I walk into Best Buy they have a nature program on their flat screen displays - the resolution is wonderful, so clear. It's mouthwatering.  I think I'll be getting a lot of "Visions of...."-type programs when we finally get one of these things.   I love trains too, and "City of New Orleans" is one of my favorite songs. Even on Amtrak there's this wonderful feeling of escape and adventure. I remember going across the Plains one evening - totally flat but with a magnificent huge full moon rising. Quite extraordinary.   Anyway, just found out another friend of mine is flying from Sacramento to Burbank (north of LA "suburb) Airport at the end of this month for the weekend and am planning to take the train from here to the airport, have dinner with her there, and then take the evening train back.  Have also thought about taking the train to LA Union Station on a Sunday, then attending a Music Center (It's just up the hill) matinee performance but haven't done that yet.

OG: So nice that you're more energized; hope the better weather holds.  In Huntington Beach, just south of LA, they reopened a channel to the ocean to allow tidal flow into a bird preserve that had previously been sealed up. Replaced the highway with a bridge over the channel and apparently it's done wonders for the preserve's ecosystem.

Margobird:  Forgot about shoes as effective tool of protest.  Very good!   :-)  That would make a nice video for the evening news.

Alan: Maybe a little plastic mac or personal doggie umbrella for Hamish?  Maybe check out those "complimentary lifestyle departments" next time you're at the garden center?

Gary: Hope tummy settles down - not making a fuss eh? Bravo!

Off to do a bit of  vacuuming and scrubbing in anticipation of friend's visit. Wind still wild but should settle down later this morning.  Take care all - and don't forget to watch the Norfolk eagle cam where at least one egg is due to hatch - today I think per Alan's post of yesterday!

  • Annette, I've always wanted to go on a long train journey as well. Would be spectaular. Most I've managed is between CT and Washington DC and that East Coast line isn't the most attractive!! My mum is going on an Alaska cruise this year and as part of that is a 2 day train ride. It looked beautiful, through the Rockies etc

Hope you have a good day and enjoy lunch with your friend.

  • Gary : Sorry you have been unwell. Hamish has no heater but lots of blankets.

Lake District are well prepared for the season. Latest view of the nest:

  • Thanks Alan, it will pass:)

I think Hamish could do with a heat lamp in there.......lol

Great picture of the nest and what a view! Breathtaking
